Hand foot and mouth

My LG has picked up HFMD from nursery. She is breastfed and we bed share. The last 2 nights have been absolutely awful for her in terms of feeding and sleeping. She wants to latch on but her mouth is just so sore. She is getting so cross at me and the only way I know how to console her is with the breast. She is refusing any cuddles, pats or rocking. Any advice from others 😴😔

Hi Jodie, we have had HFM 3 times in 4 months 🙈. I can completely understand how you’re feeling, the first time was by far the worst when I didn’t know how it would play out. We BF too and I found it so distressing not being able to do that with him - though at least at this stage you know nutrition wise he can get a lot from food. Definitely use frozen fruit (in those dummies things) to your advantage they really help them with the mouth and have him some calm quiet time when it was really upsetting him. Also teethers in the freezer and water with ice cubes in it. Also you can try an antihistamine and some ibuprofen - we had zyrtec. Some people I know used bonjela for kids but we didn’t. Mouth wise I think you should only have 1 or 2 more days max of it being this bad, it passes quite quickly thankfully. 🧡🧡🧡

No advice but solidarity! Mine was sent home from nursery Friday and today was the first day we were able to send him, it’s been the most sick I’ve ever seen him. Mouth full of blood from the ulcers especially if we try and brush (and they say it’s really important to keep trying) 😭 Absolutely horrible stuff.
