Canestan Pessary

Hey beauties. I’ve got super painful thrush, and have been given canestan cream and the pessary. Now I’ve never used pessary before, but reading online it clearly says not to use the applicator if pregnant. What Shal I do? Confused, sore and in pain!

So sorry to hear this. I recently had the same, it’s so uncomfortable so I really hope you feel better soon! I spoke to my GP about this when they prescribed them to me, and they said it was fine. My midwife also said it would be okay. I had no issues when using them x

Hey 😊 sorry you’re going through this! I’ve had it 3 times so far this pregnancy so I feel your pain! The doctor prescribed both to me each time and I used the applicator every time and no problems at all 😊 x

@Chloe is the actual thing painful once applied? I’ve also read reviews of it causing more soreness itchiness etc!

@Tessa it really is a pain. Haven’t slept properly in days, and the baby isn’t even here yet! They’ve prescribed the canestan hydrocortisone, so apparently it’s a bit stronger. She took a swab but said results won’t come back till next week so can’t give anything stronger or quicker for relief.

No I didn’t find it to be painful! In fact, applying it was really easy and I didn’t feel any discomfort or anything at all. And then I barely noticed it was in. Make sure you insert it high enough and then just go to bed! Also, if you don’t have it already, maybe your GP could prescribe you some of the cream to go alongside the pessary. It helps stops the itching and external stuff which is a big relief!

I know they said not to but I really had to use the applicator otherwise it wouldn’t have worked for me 😭

@Chloe they did prescribe the cream, and just with 2 uses has given some relief. I forgot how painful this actually is 😭. @Kashani reading the comments and even what my dr said, you are allowed to use it. Not sure why some opinions say not to.

So painful isn’t it!! I really hope you’re feeling better soon!🥺
