A moment of celebration

With the help of my colleagues, I successfully lobbied my work to increase their maternity pay from the statutory minimum of six weeks at 90% to 20 weeks at 100%. I can’t really celebrate it just yet because I only just found out but I’m super proud of myself for making the change not just for myself but for any other women who have babies while working there in the future. Now I just need to convince them to backpay the women who were screwed over by the old policy… ✊

Bravo! This is some great news! I wish my work did that 😫 x

Go you ! If you were signed off sick you’d get 12 weeks pay so we definitely lose out !

Congratulations! Proud of you! 🤩

That’s brilliant, well done! I’m really lucky to work for a brilliant organisation that not only gives me a full year off with my full salary but has enhanced paternity leave, great flexible working policies and surrogacy / adoption / prematurity leave too! It’s brilliant to have the support you need both financially and mentally when off in such an important time, so annoying that I am such a minority!

Wow that’s an incredible win, congratulations! 🤩

@Jen That’s really awesome. I did a lot of benchmarking for this process and a year off on full pay is sadly pretty rare. Thankfully more organisations are starting to realise that the six week statutory minimum is woefully inadequate and forcing your employees into penury for the crime of having a family is sexist bullshit.

@Aga It took a long time to get it changed, but it all starts with one person standing up for what they believe in. If you want some tips, I’d be happy to help.

Well done! That's amazing!
