Elective C-section

I'm 41+5 today, and I have an appointment for induction today. I'm thinking about not getting the induction but choosing a C-section instead. If I do so, what should I expect? Could you please share your experiences? I'm interested in every detail: how did baby cope with it, time spent in hospital after the surgery, how did you feel afterwards, how long did the bleeding last, recovery time, scaring, anything you could share with me. Thank you 💞

My experience was magical, so special, my little one coped extremely well, he was perfect! I was in for 24 hours before being let home, my bleeding lasted around 3-4 weeks, I was walking a few hours after surgery and felt amazing by day 3, I massage my scar and use silicone patches I’m 6 month PP but had one 13 months prior to my last and my scar is basically just a small silver line now. If you do opt for it, keep ontop of your pain meds till you feel good, hydrate yourself that helped me go to the loo and not be constipated, move little and often as soon as you can to aid your recovery xxx

I had an emergency section, 3 days in labour and baby was stressed, so I might not be the best person to talk about my recovery etc as I have heard it’s completely different to an elective. Me and baby also had an infection meaning a week in hospital, but if we hadn’t have had that, I think you can be in and out within 2 days. I was bleeding for a good 8 weeks. My periods since the section are awful, so painful that I can’t walk (this pain only lasts a day, I’ve had 4 periods so far 8 months pp) if it carry’s on much longer than I’ll see a GP but I have heard it’s common with sections. Recovery was tough, it does get slightly easier each day, and I did feel more able to do things after about 4-5 weeks. Trapped wind pain lasted about 2 weeks for me. I had no issues with my scar healing. It has faded quite a lot since I’ve been using a cream from naydaya (worth the hype) and I’ve been doing c section massage to try reduce the overhang.

Completely understand why you are considering an elective, I refused to be induced too. Good luck mama xx

I had an elective at 41 weeks as I didn’t want to be induced and loved it! It was so relaxed and enjoyable ✨ Baby was fine, latching and feeding right away in recovery. Baby was delivered just after midday, we stayed in over night and were discharged about 10ish the next day. Overnight was hard but the nurses were great at keeping pain meds topped up, but I pretty much had my baby on me all night as it was a struggle getting her out the bassinet on my own. Recovery really isn’t as bad as I thought, but take it as slow as you need to. Scar is pretty non existent tbh, really impressed with that! There is still numbness there but I think that’s normal ✨

I’ve opted for elective section over induction too I’m booked in for Friday 🥰

I haven’t had one but multiple friends have and considering it myself, few things to note that people haven’t already mentioned: - around 10 mins to get baby out, 45 mins to stitch up - Gas relief /constipation aids will help as they move your bowels etc after getting baby out - you have to have stomach injections daily for around 10 days to prevent blood clots so yourself/family member need to do that - syringing colostrum/ freezing it before you have a c section can support whilst you recover/sleep instead of breast feeding/until milk comes in as body takes some time to realise you’ve had the baby as it wasn’t naturally delivered - you have to press buzzer if baby cries, need changing, bring baby over to you, if you need anything and can feel pretty helpless - walking aids recovery/bowel/gas movement and so they will get you to do that after 24 hours before sending you home, they can send you home within 48 hours dependant on circumstances

I had a c section after a failed induction and I really enjoyed it. My partner was allowed to stay with me after so he did all the lifting of baby to me etc. I was only in 24 hours as did my post surgery wee sample and shower after 6 hours of recovery. My baby latched straight away and because she was feeding on my colostrum my milk came in on day 3- didn’t matter that she wasn’t born naturally. Take a pregnancy pillow and sleep with one at home, it made it that little bit more comfortable. After a week I felt pretty much back to normal! Will choose a section with my next pregnancy. Let me know if you have any more questions xx

I ended up choosing the C-section, and I think I made the right decision. Turned out after I was having contractions for 2 weeks, and all sorts of pre labor signs, my cervix was still 'far back, high and tightly closed' at 42 weeks. I couldn't get the hormon pessary because of the contractions and my cervix was so stiff and closed they were not sure if the balloon would go through. I got an appointment the next day, and they put me on the monitor, we were both fine, but baby was super anxious to get out, kicking a lot and having a really high heartbeat. When I told them this was happening for a week now and also going on for hours sometimes. They put me on top of the C-section list, and baby was out in 1,5 hours. We're both doing fine, recovery is not easy, but I'm definitely sure now that I made the right decision. Baby was 4,5kg and he was running out of space but the doors were closed 🫣 Thank you for all your comments and sharing your stories and knowledge 🤗🥰

I don’t know if you’ve already had your baby but I had my beautiful boy yesterday and chose a c section at the very last minute (kind of). Baby was stressed and I wasn’t progressing into proper labour despite waters breaking 35 hours prior. Doctors came in and said he was stressed so I needed a c section, then they changed their mind and was pushing to give me a hormone drop which I really didn’t want. I then asked for a c section which I had to push for in the end. I found the whole thing magical and to be honest, one of the apparent ‘cons’ of having a section is that you can’t deliver vaginally next time, I see this as a pro personally 😂😀
