changing surnamešŸ’—

hi!! me and my babyā€™s dad arenā€™t together, and i want to change my little boys surname so itā€™s double barrelled and he has both of our last names. my ex is in agreement with this, so thatā€™s not an issue. i was just wondering what the process is like for doing it? a lot of the forms you have to fill out seem confusing, and some say they have ti be signed by solicitors? so will i need to get a solicitor? also says i need someone whoā€™s known us both for 10 years, who isnā€™t a relative to us.. we werenā€™t together for very long before having our son so there isnā€™t anyone we know who would be able to do that for us!šŸ¤£šŸ«£ id be really grateful for any advice or for anyone to share their experiences with this as itā€™s not a process myself or my family have been through before!!šŸ„°

Ooh hope someone can help you, Iā€™ve had the same problem the forms are horrendous been trying to figure them out for 2 years šŸ«£

You can do solicitor free via deedpoll.co.uk ā˜ŗļø I used their service and it was so easy! šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

^ my sister used this it was easy for her

@Jade how does it work

What if the other partner doesnā€™t agree

@SPK you can apply to court to have your surname added, your ex won't be successful in having it stopped as you're not taking his surname away šŸ˜‰

@SPK - If the other parent doesnā€™t agree then thereā€™s an issue šŸ˜‚ in my case I was changing both my daughters surnames from double barrelled to just mine, luckily in my case, I had no contact with either of the fathers therefore didnā€™t need their permission. But the girl whoā€™s posted this wants to add his name and he agrees so Iā€™d advise deedpoll over court and solicitors - easier and cheaper!

thank you lovelies!! going to have a look into links etc youā€™ve posted. glad court can be avoided- weā€™ve agreed we want to avoid court in general, over his last name, custody agreements etcšŸ’ž
