Gravol for long hall flights

I’m about to fly to Europe with a very energetic 2.5 yr old. I fly back on the return trip as a solo parent and I’m a bit scared. Any tips welcome! Has anyone ever used Gravol? I’ve always been apprehensive to use medicine incase it does the reverse effect

I would never use drugs to subdue a child like that. Take books, a toy, some snacks, and let him walk around and take breaks from being in the seat. This is definitely not recommended at all

Is it the same as calpol? Airlines like British airways and Virgin keep it onboard for kids too. We carry calpol when we fly to Australia in case their ears don’t pop and they are in pain. It also keeps them comfortable and slightly sleepy like the effects of melatonin or antihistamine. We fly long haul most months and carry it, you never know if they will be uncomfortable and it makes the journey easier xx

@Sarah no, it’s a drowsy antihistamine - I presume the OP is suggesting using it to make their little one sleep on the flight 😞

Honestly OP, don’t stress about it. I started flying to Australia with our girl at 9 weeks pp and just did it with an almost 2 year old (and I’ve flown back alone with her too). Those Australia flights are FULL of families. I’ve always been surrounded on all sides by babies and kids. The cabin crew are your best friend and will watch your kid when you use the loo etc. You’ll never be without a helping hand, just ask a nearby mum/dad. My tips: travel in their pjs, pack a whole bag full of snacks and load a tablet up with Bluey, walk the cabin and tire them out half way if you have a transfer, pack extra clothes for both of you in case of a 🤮💩 explosion, pack some new toys. The knack is to get them super comfy and the white noise of the plane knocks them out. I’ve never had a flight where she’s not passed out, even when it’s not nap time xx

Thank you for your comments - my gut feeling was not to. We have a night flight so it’s more to keep her asleep rather to make her sleep. But I think we’ll be fine without it
