When does symptoms start to go away if breastfeeding?

We are only on day 2 of me cutting off dairy eggs and soy but apart from my baby’s face that’s getting better (I believe due to medicated cream) his body is still full of eczema and has a kind of allergic cough that’s been going on for weeks and did not slow down yet. I do both breastfeed and give some formula as well and was wondering if there’s even a point to keep breastfeeding? Did anyone stop because of this? Also I don’t know if is due to this milk allergy but my baby has been putting on weight really slowly and now he’s kind of stuck to the same weight for 2 weeks 🥺

Definitely keep breastfeeding it helps with eczema. What kind of formula are you giving baby? Also, rubbing breastmilk on the infected skin patches and breastmilk baths can help.

Are you using a dairy free formula when you formula feed? It takes a few weeks for the dairy etc to leave your system so stick with the diet modifications. Breast milk is a lot better for baby if you can stick at it and actually helps with allergy prevention x

@Sade (Doula) thank you I will try this today! Yes I’m using aptamil pepti 1

@Yasmin yes I am we are on aptamil pepti 1. Did it happened to you as well? I’m so worried about him not putting weight 😩 x

It took about 10 days for us to notice a difference and then about 3 -4 weeks for all the symptoms to go. My daughter then started to put weight on much more steadily!

Same here but I’m exclusively breastfeeding. My little one is only gaining weight slowly too and all I do is feed him 🥲 it’s hard work but hopefully you get to the bottom of it. Keep going as it takes a few weeks and you’re not alone 🤍

Thank you so much girls that’s so reassuring! I’m so annoyed because I started giving formula top ups as I thought he wasn’t putting weight on because my supply wasn’t enough and now I’m stuck

I'm the same x

I'm day 6 dairy soy and egg free and I thought my LGs face was clearing up but seems to have come up again today so wondering if it's something I ate. It takes a few weeks though to clear both systems and heal baby, that's why they say give at least 4-6 weeks before introducing again.

You should see a difference within a couple of weeks. I’m fairly sure that aptamil pepti 1 contains cows milk in it but it’s hydrolysed which means the proteins are broken down and easier to digest. Some babies tolerate it fine but my daughter didn’t so we moved onto neocate which is dairy free. It’s the one they generally offer first to see if baby can tolerate it (I didn’t realise this to start with!). In the end I actually moved to just breastfeeding as ironically I found it easier to manage my diet and not keep switching formulas as none of them seemed to agree and it was a sacrifice but I found the chopping and changing formulas stressful! Slow weight gain can be a symptom of cmpa, my daughter struggled to gain weight but she caught up once it was managed

@Laura I had no idea this formula contained milk too! And yes it is so stressful keep changing it and I’m glad to hear your little one is gaining weight now and great that you’re only breastfeeding I’m hoping to be able to do the same
