T-dap?

There's so much I don't know about pregnancy. This is my first time being pregnant. I prefer to do everything I can naturally, if possible. I heard something about t-dap and I'm very unsure if it's smart to decline it. I want to protect my child but not neglect her. I know nobody can tell me what to do, but I really could use y'all's advice or opinions. I'm scared if I'm being honest. I don't trust a lot of things.

I got the T-Dap vaccine when I was pregnant with my daughter and we were both fine. It’s actually recommended that anyone who will be in close contact with your baby shortly after delivery have the vaccine as well. It’s been around for a long time. I did decline getting the Covid vaccine while pregnant and have not vaccinated my daughter for that. It’s whatever your comfortable with ❤️

You and anyone around you should get their t-dap booster. Regardless of if you’ve had a booster in the past few years it is recommended you get it in the 3rd trimester so you can create antibodies to pass down to your baby before birth. It is safe for pregnant women and babies. All people who will be in contact with your baby in the first few months should get their booster as well to help keeping immunity around the baby. Whooping cough is no joke, you definitely don’t want your baby to catch it so I would say absolutely get that one done.

You should get the TDAP vaccine while pregnant as well as your husband/baby daddy and anyone else who will be around the baby after delivery. I had my mom, in laws and my brother get it before they were allowed to visit. Thankfully they all got it while I was still pregnant so they could visit at the hospital. It’s such an easy vaccine to get and whooping cough is VERY dangerous for babies. I will say I didn’t get the covid vaccine while pregnant as it was advised against by my OB. That one is too new for me to trust, especially while pregnant. Plus there are so many new strains…the vaccine isn’t much worth it IMO.

I did not get it while pregnant I didn’t even know about it until the end. My daughter got one round of it and then I stopped. But you have to decide for yourself what’s best for you and your family. I’ll never tell others they shouldn’t get something. Based on my own research and what I know about my family’s history, I avoided it.

I got the tdap with my first and i told grandparents and our siblings to get the booster to protect our son.

I Didn't Get It , She Is Fine . No One In My Family Got Their Booster Either . I Was But Never Followed Up . But I Was Only Getting It Bc It Is Very Bad Sick Season Around Dec/Winter Time .

I feel the same way as you. Scared and un trusting. But I just wanted to do what’s best. If you want to message me I can send you some of the research I did to help me make my decision!

I got it with my first as did all family members who would be near my baby in the first few months. I’ll get it again this time too for sure.

Get your vaccines. Don't buy into anti-vaccination conspiracy theories. There's way too much of that on here.

Don’t listen to the fear mongering conspiracy theorists. T-dap has been tested on pregnant woman and considered safe and recommended since 2011. The alternative of getting sick with any of the things tdap is trying to prevent has a much worse outcome. It’s not worth the risk of not getting it

When making these choices, it's important to understand how these treatments are tested and why some treatments are recommended during pregnancy. It is considered unethical to flat out test treatments on pregnant women. They use controlled studies. This means they observe those who chose to accept treatment during their pregnancy. Further, they really only recommend necessary treatments while you're pregnant. This means that if there is not a significant benefit or reduction of risk, it's advised against. Why are vaccines specifically recommended? Often, viral infections during pregnancy or in early infancy are extremely high risk to your child. Unlike bacteria infection, you have to let viral infections run their course. Though no treatment is risk-free, the risks that come with vaccines is significantly lower than the risk of infection as established over long periods of observation.

@Emera good job at being lucky AND unreasonably condescending. Since you love to “look things up,” look up Survivor’s Bias 🙄

As has been brought up, the covid vaccines are newer, and there is little information of the long-term risk of infection vs vaccine. Talk to your provider. They can provide additional information for you to explore. Educate yourself on infectious disease. It's a serious topic and quite interesting.

@Emera anecdotes are not facts, and I’m not the one who has been fooled.

@Emera being a "doctor" isn't necessarily good enough. Mechanical engineers can hold doctorates, making them doctors. Not necessarily competent to provide medical advice, but still doctors. There are recalls for car seats, medications, produce, and all sorts of things. That's not necessarily a good reason to refuse risk mitigation. Polio is one of many viral diseases starting to present again because people are more scared of the vaccine than the disease. Or maybe just doesn't see the vaccine as necessary. There are risks to everything. More people die or are horribly injured in car accidents every year than are negatively impacted by vaccines. Yet people take that risk daily. Financially, unless they are new, like for covid vaccine, they don't tend to be profitable. Disease is profitable for pharmaceutical companies and the medical industry as a whole. Be careful how you assign credibility to and understand the true risk of individual diseases before you choose to leave your child vulnerable.

@Hannah I’m too busy right now to reply to all of your statements/allegations, but I never said that there was zero risk for vaccines. However, the fact that it greatly helps prevent pertussis (whooping cough) is worth that risk alone to me. Have you seen a newborn struggling to breathe and hospitalized for it? It’s truly awful looking. It kills on average 295,000 people worldwide per year (many of them babies). The cases thankfully dropped during the pandemic due to people staying home more, but now the case numbers are rising again and people vaccinating less are helping it spread even more.

@Hannah Polio was reduced world wide by roughly 99%. For practical purposes, it has been declared "eradicated". There have been positive cases in Afghanistan and Pakistan this year, 2024. Both those countries still vaccinate for polio all 3 types. We may see complete eradication in the next decade. I was thinking of Measles. With the last U.S. outbreak in 2019. Pertussis also had a significant peak in 2014. Smallpox is the only infections disease I know of that has been truly eradicated. The last case was in 1975, I think. I believe Russia and the U.S. have the two remaining samples. As long as infectious diseases cases can be identified, they remain risks. This is because people don't always isolate or even know how serious their infection may be. People can be contagious even without symptoms. I'm not saying you should accept any treatment blindly. You have an obligation to assess the risk of both scenarios. If you don't find the vaccine necessary, you shouldn't accept it. The issue is risk assessment.

But if you sleep better at night knowing your kid is “protected” against these diseases then good for you!! I applaud you! And I don’t mean that sarcastically. You did what you feel is best for your child and hey guess what! They’ll probably be fine! And mine probably will too… I’m not telling everyone they shouldn’t vaccinate. I just have a problem with people calling me a fear mongering conspiracy theorist because I’m not. I made my decision based on research I did on my own to do what’s best for my child. Just like you did. And the fact is you probably have research that supports your theory just like I have research to support mine. So let’s not be ugly here 🫶🏻

If It Was That Important Then Why Did The Recommend Instead Of Mandate It ? If Yuon Want The Vaccine Then Dont Get It . Just Do Yur Research .

@Katie hahahaha my thoughts too

@Hannah you need therapy. I’ve made my choice and weighed the risks, as have you. We both think we are right and doing the best for our kids. (Unless new peer-reviewed data comes out) I will always think you are making the wrong choice for not only your kids, but also how it affects those around them. It’s pointless for us to keep arguing. Go outside and breathe some fresh air.

@Leah I find it so funny when someone who’s doing the exact same thing as me tells me I need therapy, or to go outside and and breathe, or calm down. You’re corresponding on this app too babe 🤣 if I need therapy then by your standards so do you. Don’t act all high and mighty. And you’re absolutely right!!! The difference is I don’t care what you do with your child. Also I don’t see how it affects others around them if they’re vaccinated and believe in the vaccines??? Why does it matter what I do? They’re protected. You’re a walking contradiction. Also great job being too busy to respond to me 👍🏻 you sure showed me.

@Hannah 😒 this proves that you lack empathy. It does matter because as you said vaccines are not 100% effective, they just reduce the risk. If more people are vaccinated, it lessens the severity and quantity of the spread. It helps society. Also, a lot of people cannot get certain vaccines due to allergies, or they are immunocompromised for one reason or another. I care about those people. I even care about your kids as I also care about mine. That’s the difference between us. I know that my actions or lack of actions can negatively affect others and I CARE about that. I’ve been to therapy, it’s not like it’s a bad thing, you definitely need it if you get worked up this easily. As far as being busy yesterday, when I yes I was too busy to find the source of every single little detail you were going on and on about for hours. You clearly have more free time than I do to be a keyboard warrior. I have responsibilities that take precedence over someone who gets lost in fake rabbit holes.

@Leah worked up? Lol where I’m just peachy hun. And you just said it yourself. They’re not 100% effective. If you want to believe they help people that’s great! Good for you! I pray nobody gets injured in your family. I’ve made my decisions, like I said, because I’ve personally witnessed vaccine injuries and have people close to me that have experienced it. I know my family history. So to say I “lack empathy” is ignorant. You don’t know me, or my heart based on one topic we disagree on. I care about people’s kids too thanks for assuming I don’t! I don’t not vaccinate because I hate others kids and want them to die. I do it to protect my children, and I spread awareness about how dangerous they are/can be to protect others. The REAL difference between us is you believe they’re helpful and I believe they’re harmful. Maybe you should go back to therapy. I care in my way, you care in your way. Never said therapy was bad. “Too busy to find the source” lol ok.

@Leah just say you’re too lazy to look it up and worried that you actually might find out that I’m right. I’m never too lazy to research important topics about my children’s health. I actually carve out a lot of time to make sure I’m doing what’s best for my family!! Sorry you don’t do the same. Also if I’m a keyboard warrior what does that make you?? What makes my rabbit holes fake and yours real?? The issue with you is you’re one sided. I research ALL sides before I make my decisions. You said it yourself “I’m not gonna go find the source and every little detail” and that’s your problem right there. I went back and forth forever before I made my decision. My daughter got some of the shots. You’re only going to research articles that support the decision you’ve already made. Also the information I’m talking about isn’t hard to find that’s the funny part. But keep it coming I got all day hun. In my opinion you’re the one that’s worked up here.

@Hannah you cannot prove that it was the tdap that caused an injury. You simply cannot. Again, I agree that they are not 100% effective and again I still think based on the data that the risk of the disease is much higher than the risk of a potential vaccine injury. I’ve never said that it cannot happen, it’s just less of a risk, but I obviously hope it doesn’t happen to anyone. If you’re not worked up, then you need to rethink how you’re coming across online through your posts because it makes you sound unhinged tbh. I have to get back to my full-time job now, have a good day on your phone.

@Leah let me be clear my issue here isn’t the fact that you believe in vaccines or that you get them. Or even that you think you’re right and I’m wrong. Genuinely could not care less. I have an issue with you assuming because I have a different opinion than you that I lack emapathy, am a fear mongerer, don’t do my own research, don’t care about other people. I’m not saying any of that about you! You’re the one being ugly. Assuming my character because a difference of opinion? Yikes. I bet you’re an amazing mother! And I applaud you for being so strong in your beliefs. But first acting like you’re too good to go back and forth with me, yet here you are, and continuing to attack my character and tell me I need therapy? 😬

@Hannah I said what I said. I’m sure you’re a great mother too. Have a good day.

@Leah oh now you’re gonna tell me what happened to my family? 🤣 funny because they were actually told by the SAME DOCTOR THAT GAVE THE SHOT that it was the vaccine and then continued to get compensation from the NVICP. Sorry, I didn’t realize you were there!!! Or a medical professional for that matter. And if you think you’re not worked up and think you’re still not doing the same thing I am then you need to rethink your entire personality lmao. Stay up on that high horse babe!!!! It looks great on you 🥰

@Leah you as well!! Enjoy work!
