Ultrasound question

This might be a dumb question but for my ultrasound tomorrow they said to drink 32oz an hour before and to not use the restroom. Does that mean I need to drink 32oz by an hour before, start drinking 32oz at an hour before, or chug 32 oz at an hour before? Lol I did it wrong at my 20w anatomy scan but they were able to get everything they needed. Also, when do I stop using the restroom? At the hour mark, once I start drinking the water, or after all the water is finished? Lol I just want to make sure they have the conditions they need for the scan. My baby is silly and it’s hard for my midwife to determine which position she’s in. Both round spots feel like a butt or a head. Hence the ultrasound to ensure she is head down.

Not a dumb question I have only ever had to drink water before my 9 week scans never for any after that. I was always told to start drinking it one hour before once you start drinking you stop using the bathroom so your bladder is full enough to push on uterus and see baby, but baby should be big enough to see anyway so 🤷‍♀️

@Sara thanks for helping clarify the instructions

I've never been told by my hospital to have a full bladder for any ultrasounds so I don't think you can screw it up too bad I'm sure they'll still be able to see what they need to I just would make sure you dont use the bathroom right before

I’ve heard that drinking water can actually be unnecessary. It doesn’t really help if anything it just puts your bladder in the way. This is coming from my sister who’s an ultrasound tech. But maybe it will help in your case I just know when I did it it actually hindered the tech from seeing anything. But to answer your question it doesn’t have to be so precise as long as you drink some water beforehand and don’t go to the bathroom.

It's not a requirement to drink that much as you progress it's more uncomfortable in my opinion on that it's why I don't go in with a full bladder but being you are pregnant in any stage it's easier to feel like you have to go to the bathroom because that's where your baby is pushing on so you'll have a good idea of how easy you can go if you have to for them if you empty before your appointment. You can always ask for a drink of water if they want you to leave a sample for them

Water should be gone by hour before and no going to bathroom so that blader is full so they can see to check your cervix to make sure it isn't dilating which would be sign of possible early labor change
