What fabric type for a baby romper?

I’m making a baby romper for a 12 month old and I’m wondering what the best fabric to use is? I’m guessing it needs to be stretch rather than just cotton because he’s practically walking already. No experience of sewing baby clothes so advice appreciated!

@Char the pattern will tell you the fabric you can use for each

@Helena Dias thanks I’ll take a look but was just after some advice from anyone who’s made baby clothes before. I think there’s several options on the pattern but I guess it depends on their age? A 1 year old is much more active than a newborn

@Char clothes made for stretch or non stretch fabric are usually different patterns and that's why I suggested looking at it. Not many patterns you can change between fabrics.

I'd either go for a 2 way or 4 way stretch jersey. There's lots online. If you type baby jersey fabric. Mini and Bee and My Fabrics are a good place to start.

If you want to make something not Stretchy as you'll need a stretch knit needle for the machine you can go for a 100% cotton. Oh sew crafty has loads

I love the pattern, where is it from?

@Helena Dias oh okay that’s good to know! I always just took them with a pinch of salt and just bought what I liked haha, probably where I’m going wrong

@Heena it’s this one by simplicity. I’ve made the joggers and the hoodie but not the romper yet https://amzn.eu/d/aniwB79

@Char I guess you can make in stretch even if it says non stretch but the cut is not the same so you won't get the same results. This in non stretch for kids will be looser than if it was for stretch so if you do in stretch it will be baggy and possibly won't look so good in the body. Curves are designed differently for stretch and woven fabrics.

If it's intended for non-stretch you could use chambray, needlecord or brushed cotton?
