Hi everyone

So I have a question When do you get worried about your toddler not talking. Mine is 18 months He used to say mama and dada but not necessarily calling me or his dad. He doesn’t say it anymore. He watches a lot of ms Rachel lately and tries to repeat what she says or sings. When I’m on the phone he likes to take the phone from me and starts talking more of blabbering cause I can’t make sense of what he says… He doesn’t understand some instructions and will only respond to his name when he likes..

I think that’s fairly normal tbh mine mostly babbles it’s others that tell me she’s saying words I can barely understand her she does understand instructions and her name but again it’s when she chooses to listen or ignore me 🙈

The not listening/following instructions part is normal. For talking, I’ve read they should have at least a handful of words in their arsenal by 18 months, so if you’re not seeing that, it’s worth it to speak to his doctor. If there is a delay of some sort, early intervention is key. Best of luck ❤️

My boy recently went through a stage of not really talking and in the past week or so hes gone from hardly talking to accurately saying loads of different words. His sentences are 99% gibberish so you have to properly listen in to what hes saying to pick up his words 🤣

My LG isn't talking yet, she says pretty much nothing but gibberish. She does understand some instructions and knows her name. But if she's focused on something you've got no chance, when she's in the zone she's in the zone. I constantly worry about her not talking, my son is 3 and still non speaking he is Autistic, so has his added difficulties in this area. What I can say, at this age there is a HUGE difference in speaking abilities, some children have lots of words and simple sentences, other a few and lots have no words at all. Try not to stress about it, there is a fantastic lady called Joanne Jones of the "can do speech therapy " on facebook who gives you free helpful tips and tricks to help late talkers, she does free mini boot camps and challenges which are well worth it. It's so easy to fixate on what they can't do, but focus on what they can and build on it xx
