Coughing / choking on milk whilst bottle feeding

My baby is nearly 3 weeks old now and she keeps coughing / choking whilst feeding from the bottle, both formula and breast milk. I have Tommy tippee bottles, both normal and anti colic both with a slow flow teat and it still happens! does anyone else have this? Makes feeding so stressful because it makes me anxious :(( is there anything that will help?

My baby does this, formula fed with tommee tippee (normal and anti colic bottles too). Scares me every time she does it, she tends to do it more in the evenings and I'm not sure why. Don't know anything to help though unfortunately ☹️

@Amy yeha evenings with us too, I think she gets tired and half falls asleep

Are you making sure to pace feed? Sitting them almost upright and holding the bottle horizontal. This way you control the pace and can quickly offer a rest. Bottle fed babies naturally like to guzzle and can over feed otherwise x

it’s the bottles!! same with my LO and i’ve heard this from many other mum’s! i switched to mostly using MAM bottles with mostly 0 (1 works okay, too) teets and it makes the world of a difference. remember to pull back and take control of the pace if you feel LO is guzzling too quickly but definitely look into changing the bottles for now💕

Could she have a tongue tie?

I'm going to switch out my Tommee Tippee bottles now too after reading the above comments. I breastfeed but give pumped milk too and it's disturbing Dad for the bedtime feed when she is guzzling and choking. We are doing paced feeding and lots of breaks to burp too.

It's where the flow is to fast for them. Try to keep them upright and the bottle horizontal and that will help. I've had my baby cough on my breast. when I saw the lactation consultant and they told me to squeeze while she feeds and shortly after I did that she was coughing (something she never had done on my breast previously) and they said oh the flow must have been too fast for her.

I had the same with tommee Tippee bottles and he used to have really painful wind afterwards which would take a while to come up! We changed to mam bottles and he’s so much better! It was also a benefit that the tests on the mam bottles are a similar shape to the teats he had in hospital x
