I had the same predicament but after speaking to a friend who had a baby in each she said Wigan, this was because there is no toilets in the rooms, so you have to leave you baby and walk down a long corridor to go to the loo, but at Wigan, each room has a toilet ☺️ simple things but it was enough to sway me! She got turned away from Bolton because they had no beds on her second baby, so they went to Wigan and they was amazing with her ❤️
I’ve had both my girls at Bolton, last one was a week ago today. The actual care on triage & during my delivery was absolutely fab my midwives were great, but post natal care wasn’t amazing. I never made it off delivery ward last week because there was no room for me on maternity and the midwives were running around like blue arse flies because they were so short staffed. In my experience the staff are great but they are so overworked you can feel like you’ve slipped through the cracks a bit x
I had my little girl at Wigan and found the midwives to be amazing throughout my pregnancy and after birth too. The only downside to Wigan is parking is awful x
I had my little one two weeks ago at Wigan and honestly I couldn't fault the experience or the care we received in the delivery suite. They were great and everything went well, we also got to spend quite a long time in our delivery room after the birth, just the three of us, so it was actually a lovely first few hours as a family. Was a bit chaotic when we had to move to the ward, but I imagine most wards are probably like that everywhere at the moment - it wasn't necessarily 'bad', just a bit slow and I was dying to get home. We still managed to leave that same day though, and the labour/birth itself couldn't have gone any better x
Another vote for Wigan 😊
Thank you everyone. Has anyone else noticed that a lot are having c-sections atm there though? A lot of my friends have all ended up having one. I was worried that this was the first thing there were going to there. Also wondering are you allowed 2 people with you at Wigan? I’m wondering if I can maybe change the 2nd person at some point?
I've had a baby at each and had a really good experience both times. Both delivery rooms were fairly similar with shower/toilet in ensuite. Midwives were so friendly for both! I was out the same day though so not sure what the wards are like. X
I had my boy at Wigan in 2021 and if we decide to have another I'll be going to Ormskirk hospital instead. I know from attending baby groups that so many people had poor experiences too but things could have improved since then. So many mistakes and the staff weren't very helpful or attentive x
I’ve had a baby at both and I’d choose Wigan again any day. Amazing staff, they really listened to my wishes during labour (I had a natural birth with ventouse) and they were so helpful after the birth when it came to breastfeeding support and discussing my daughters care with me as she spent some time on neonates. This was 10 weeks ago. Each bay has a toilet as well which Bolton doesn’t have 🤦🏻♀️ Bolton were great up until postnatal care which was terrible. I’ll agree that the parking can be shite at Wigan though
@Rachel what have you heard about ormskirk that makes you think of going there instead? X
I've also had a baby at ormskirk and had a great experience there too, it is a nicer hospital generally. I chose Wigan this time because it was the closest to where I live now and I have very fast deliveries so my biggest worry was actually getting there before the baby came. When I had my son at ormskirk we ended up needing an ambulance and we only just made it there in time. If it's your first baby though you should be fine x
I had my little boy in November and had an emergency c section, the midwives were amazing through my induction and it was the very last option. My little boy was in a lot of distress though and unfortunately it had to happen, I'm so happy he's safe and sound though. ❤️
I had my first at Bolton hated it. The care was shocking the staff were rude I didn’t get much pain relief, they told me they referred my daughter for tongue tie but didn’t, they wanted to push me to formula feed, bad attitudes etc
I had my daughter at Wigan and everything was fine x
I had a great experience at wigan. I did have an elective c-section due to baby being breech but they are really great x
