Britax or Axkid ? (or other)

Hello, I am currently looking for a car seat for my son, but there are too many options available 😅. He is 14 months old and is in the 90th percentile for height and 95th percentile for weight. After doing some quick research, I found that the Axkid Minikid 2 might be suitable, as well as the Britax Safe-Way M and Max Safe Pro. Is the Max Safe Pro a higher-end model compared to the Safe-Way M? Will the two Britax models really last longer than axkid ? Do all three models compare well in terms of ease of installation and comfort for the child? I've also read that the size of the car can be an issue. Could this be a problem with a medium-sized car (e.g., Golf, Polo, Ford focus, Toyota Auris ...)? Thank you for your help!

But saying that as he’s high centiles in height also there is a chance he’ll outgrow it in height before weight but that all depends on whether he carries his length in torso or legs. If he has a shorter torso but longer legs then it wouldn’t be a problem

I will soon have a Toyota Auris, it seems to be about the same size as the Vauxhall Corsa. Thank you very much for the infographic! I now know that it's better to get the max safe pro. Especially as they both seem to cost about the same. What made you choose the axkid? I've seen it more often than the britax (on my short search of the evening 😅)

We have an axkid minikid 2 and love it, i wouldnt call it compact though and the britax models are even bigger depth wise

I’m honestly not sure I think I was told that the axkid was ever so slightly more compact for a smaller car. I don’t think it is by much though tbh and I don’t think many ERF are particularly compact for the fact they need to last so long. Also at the time my daughter was fairly low centiles so we didn’t feel it was necessary to get a 36kg seat although she’s now slightly gone up in centiles so I think at some point in the next year I’m going to get her a 36kg seat (probably one for the 2 Britax) and use her axkid for my second baby once it’s outgrown it’s infant carrier

Yes the Max-Safe Pro has some extras that the Safe-Way M doesn’t. It has a 36kg weight limit and the Minikid 2 has a 25kg limit. The longest lasting seats are the Axkid Minikid 4 and Movekid. The back length on those is around 10cm more than Minikid 2 and the Britax models. With a 36kg weight limit too. They’re also more compact and fit well in focus/polo sized cars. https://www.carseatsplus.co.uk/products/axkid-movekid

I have a minikid 2 for gramdparenrs car and it’s great but my car is small (Skoda Fabia Hatchback) so have an Avionaut sky as it’s more compact but may not last as long.

@Emily Thank you for the advice. The MoveKid seems great, but it's not within the same budget. However, if I can use it for an additional year, it might be worth it. Regarding a seat that goes up to 18kg, is it significantly more bulky? I'll try to find a store to compare. Too many choices 😅.

@Amy Thank you! What car do they have? In both cars, can someone sit in the front without any issues?

My parents have a volvo s90 so much bigger for the minikid. In my fabia my partner who is about 5’11 fits in the front seat fine we just had to lower the seat for leg room. The minikid will last longer and is easier to install but the sky is compact and looks so much comfier

Thank you

It’ll last those that are outgrowing the Minikid 2 by height another two years at least. Well worth the extra £100 ☺️. 18kg seats are usually spin ones which do tend to be bulkier unfortunately! So much easier when you see them in person ☺️

Thank you !
