Formula milk guidance…

Hiya I’m abit confused on the whole formula guidance as have been breast feeding but decided to top up my baby with formula. I made him a bottle at 1pm with hot water and he fell asleep… it’s now 3.5 hours later and he hasn’t had it… I’ve just popped the bottle in a jug of warm water to hear it up… is it ok for him to have still? I just read online you shouldn’t reheat it … and now I’m a little unsure… any thoughts please share, Liz x

After you prepare formula it’s good for 2 hours at room temperature. If he doesn’t eat it you can put it back in the fridge and it’s good for 24 hours in the fridge. If it’s been heated up already since you made it with hot water and he doesn’t eat it then it’s bad. You shouldn’t reheat formula. Hope that helps

I used to make my formula work room temperature water to get the most of it if she didn't drink it all at first. Then like Michelle said, in the fridge it's good for 24hrds

If you're using powdered formula, you can measure up just the water and keep it warm. Then just add the powdered formula to it when your LO is ready. Whatever my LO doesn't finish, I put in the fridge to use later in the day.

When using formula it's very important to discard if the water or mixed formula is warm after 1 hour. Warm water creates bacteria. You can prepare a room temp bottle & as long as baby hasn't drank from it within 2 hours you would have to store in the fridge to ensure it's safe to consume or otherwise 2+ hours discard the room temp bottle. You can also prep bottles of formula, put them in the fridge & they are good for 24 hours, I had a colleague who made her formula like a batch of lemonade when her 2nd was 2 Mo old🤣❤️ she told me her husband thought it was egg nog 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Thanks @Michelle that makes sense… I threw it away but yeah think next time maybe I pop it in the fridge after 2 hours 👍

Thanks @Heather think that’s what I should do keep them separate n just mix it 👍 when needed

@Lauren egg nog 🤣🤣 When you say make a bath? Is it the powder and hot or cold water? Cause if I make it with the kettle warm water and then in fridge - I can’t warm it up again? or give it to him cold or room temp once it’s been out for a little while../ This is a mind field aswell as breast feeding 🤯
