@Holly 🫣 thanks girl, will try not to worry too much until they offer! But I wonder if you can get an epidural if you’re induced? Not sure if you know X As I had one with my 1st baby and it was great.
You can get epidural if your induced you can also get pain reliever. I was induced with my first and It is very painful, but you will get through this. You are strong and capable.
I was induced with the rods (non hormonal) and other than the implantation being a little uncomfortable, they don’t hurt when they’re in. Around 16 hours later my contractions started and they were manageable with pain relief and a tens machine for about 6 hours. My baby was back to back, too big for a natural birth & I have had bad pelvic girdle pain since week 16 so my contractions were all in my lower back and hips and were excruciating. I wasn’t allowed an epidural until I got to 3cm so I had pethidine twice which really helped. The epidural meant I slept from 3cm to 5cm and then the doctors made the decision for a C Section as my baby was stuck, distressed and there was myconium. The induction wasn’t bad at all and allowed me time to mentally prepare , for me it was my terrible contractions but that’s so specific to my baby’s position and PGP. Hope that helps x
@Claire oh Gosh, I also have PGP! It’s been awful, even walking hurts so much. Il just have to see what they think 🫣 But I will ask for epidural if I can because the pain of contractions from my first which was natural labour were bad enough lol
I had an induction with my last baby. It was straight to the drip as my waters had gone at 36+5 so they cudnt give me pessary or break waters. I was terrified. Honestly was absolutely fine, 5 hours start to finish, delivered with 2 paracetamol and gas / air and had episiotomy/ ventouse and honestly did not hurt anywhere near as much as expected. Was a positive experience tbh and I would go for it again. Currently 38 weeks with number 2 and would bite someone’s hand off if they offered to induce me right now 🤣
@Elizabeth 🤣🤣 I am also at this stage, I’m very over being pregnant. But babies movements have slowed down.. so I know they will offer me one! 40 weeks tomorrow
@Soph yes I believe you can.
Honestly I think it depends on you as a person and what your pain threshold is like. I went in to be induced over 2 weeks ago now and found I was already 2cm dilated and contracting every 2 mins within a 10 min cycle. I had no idea. The contractions were showing as 100 on the CTG. I had no pain. I couldn’t be induced then and there due to the contractions but eventually these subsided and I had 1mg of the gel. I didn’t find any of the induction to hurt, but they did pull my cervix forward which HURT. Next time if I’m ever in this position, I will decline this. There was no need for it (it didn’t make any difference) and it just caused pain with every internal I then had. That was the only downside to my induction. The birth itself was very quick and I had to be cut which is now causing pain but otherwise it was ok. You hear lots of mixed stories but I think you just have to go in with an open mind and just stay as relaxed as you can (easier said than done I know) xx
Try not to worry too much and relax (easier said than done). I’ve not had an induction. Mine is tomorrow! I’ve was petrified after hearing loads from other but there are also loads of people with positives. Just because you’re offered an induction doesn’t mean you have to take it up. Just try and read up on it as much as possible. Everyone is different. They will give you pain relief if you need it and you’ll be in good hands and monitored. Good luck xx
