How many nhs scans?

How many scans have people had with NHS? At my 20 weeks they didn’t book in another like they did at the 12 weeks, and I had my 25 week midwife appointment yesterday and she didn’t book one either (I forgot to ask about it as well). Is that in now? No more scans?😢

It's just 2 unless you have any reason to have more i.e. growth scans etc! Which is mad I think x

You only get 2, 12 weeks and 20 weeks, unless they're needed for medical reasons. I had 6 because I had a stubborn baby at the start so I had to go back 3 times for an accurate due date, my 20 week scan then I had a growth scan at 35 weeks because my fundal height was measuring 4 weeks ahead. The last 2 were the csection doctors after my waters broke to check if my baby was still breech because they couldn't tell. He had a "peachy bum" so they didn't know if they were feeling his head or butt 🤣

It’s only 2 unless under consultants etc x I’m having more due under consultants but it was the same for my boy last year x

Check with your hospital as quite a few now offer a 36 week routine scan. Mine does.

If your pregnancy is classed as low risk you will get 12 & 20 week scans.

Thanks everyone! That’s a little disappointing, wish I could see him more, but at least I know I haven’t missed booking one if I was meant to 🤣🥰

@Kyraleigh you can always book in for a private scan, wttw have some really good deals on at the minute if you are local to one ☺️

Definitely pay private if you can afford it! Window to the womb are amazing, I’ve also used ultrasound direct which are cheaper depending on the type of scan you choose!

Most are 12 and 20 but a few hospitals do them at 39 but not many. You can pay for a private scan if you want to see baby as they get bigger

Yeaah I'm not sure what hospitals are doing 36 weeks as routine?!?! Because I was told at my 20 week scan that as I'm low risk I won't get anymore after that unless something comes up that they want to check or anything happens. I paid for private and tbh I wouldn't do it again. It was rushed and she moved the probe over everything so fast that I barely saw anything clearly.

Wow that’s crazy in Australia we have like 5

Try and take comfort that it means your pregnancy is going smoothly. I and 15 scans during my pregnancy, which tells you to was NOT a straight forward pregnancy 🫠 You can always have a private scan though, it’s nice to get to see baby ☺️

2 one at 12 weeks and 1 at 20 weeks! You will be sent for growth scans based on what your midwife finds at appointments xx

I have a 3rd one at 36 to check position as I’m having a home birth, and apparently won’t believe a womens intuition on where baby’s head is 🙄

@Bethan my hospital 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️ it does happen.

I got 4 with my first baby at St Thomas’, London. Week 12, 20, 28 and 36. This baby I’ve had the 12 week scan and booked in for an early anomaly at 16 week so we will see how many I get. I’d recommend private though too, much better quality imagery and lots of printouts xx

Just at 12 and 20 unless you or your midwife have any concerns or if your consultant led.

You only get 2 but I had at least 5

Just 12 and 20 week scans unless there’s a reason for more x

Usually two but you can book a private one if you want reassurance.

Depends on the place. In London we have 3 but most only do 2. Unless they need to keep an eye on baby

As everyone else has said it’s 2 if you are low risk. Even at low risk I had 4; 12wk, 20wk, one to check my cervix and a growth scan. I took comfort from the midwife checking babies heartbeat at every appointment.

I had the 12 week and 20 week scan, then from 28 weeks had growth scans every month until my due date and I’m still unsure of the reason why. I honestly think it was because my ‘BMI was high’ which BMI is a load of bollocks, but I saw the positive that I got to see my baby every month.

Thanks again everyone, I’m not worried and I’m happy to pay private to get more (we’ve already had a few private and have some more booked). I was only worried that I might have had to book one in and then had missed doing it, so wanted to make sure I hadn’t done anything wrong or missed out. But I know it’s a good thing that I’m low risk right now and I’m not complaining at all :)
