Water Birth- is it worth it?

I’m 34 weeks and need to start thinking about my birth plan. This is my first pregnancy so everything is new for me! I’ve looked into waterbirths because I have rheumatic joints and warm water is usually quite pain relieving. Does anyone have any experience of water births and is there anything I should consider before going ahead with it? Thank you!

I loved it

Hey! I had a water birth and absolutely loved it. It was sooo soothing and they topped the warm water up constantly which was great. You can’t have any pain relief other than gas and air in the pool and maybe just have to think about a bikini top/bra to wear! But honestly it was incredible. I found the water helped so much I didn’t need the gas and air either xx

I’m opting for a water birth but I’m 2 days till due and worried I won’t be able to have one if I’m too over due x

@Shannon Ofcourse you could have one xx why do you think not lovely

I was worried if I’m overdue they’ll induce me or I’ll have a c section. This is my first pregnancy so I don’t know how it all works xx

I've had two and couldn't recommend them enough! X

Hey! I say look into all birthing options, I planned a waterbirth with my little boy and then I got overdue had various inductions and ended up having a emergency C section - I only looked into waterbirths so I was a little bit blind going into hospital for delivery then ending up being rushed to c section, 💖 I’ve requested waterbirth this time so 🤞🤞

I'm open to a waterbirth but planning either way. I'll plan to use the bath in early labour and decide at the time if I'd like to stay in or not. My sister did similar and just decided to stay in the bath and had a great experience. There's no need to make a firm decision either way in my understanding, I'd just let them know you're considering it and would like to have the bath available and ready in early labour x

I had a water birth with my first daughter and I loved it, I have since moved and don’t know if I will be able to have another as the hospital I’m in doesn’t have a huge amount of baths so it will be what is available on the day, I would recommend looking into all options, and try not to get into the water early as it can slow progress and a lot of women can get out due to being cold or taking too long. I would also recommend looking like other have said at all birthing options so that you aren’t blindsided on the day, as things like induction or epidural can impact your options.

I'm also planning a water birth. I'm so excited!

@Shannon you don't have to be induced or have a c section. Remember it is your choice❤️ but hospitals probably won't let you use the pool if your overdue

@Emilie what did you wear ? Z

@Sophie what did you wear x

@Teah I recently spoke to my midwife and no concern with me being overdue and using the pool it’s only if you’re induced but if they break my waters or give me a stretch and sweep I’m all fine to use the pool still 😁which is reassuring and they said it’s only if I’m given certain pain relief which I already knew about , if you have an epidural you can’t have a water birth but thank you for your comment back 🥰xx

@Lucy I just wore a very stretchy, comfy bralet! X
