Nurse basically told me off BF

My LO had his first jabs today and I didn’t realise you aren’t meant to feed them after incase they are sick. My LO hadn’t fed in 3 hours so after was naturally hungry and she made me feel awful saying I shouldn’t feed him but he was so hungry and I thought breast milk will adapt for him if he’s poorly

I’ve not heard about this? Not sure if formula is different but I EBF and I fed both my babies immediately after all their jabs (like literally as soon as the needle left them). If anything mine were more likely to be sick from excessive crying so boob was able to calm them a lot quicker.

Huh? I was told to give her some milk to calm her afterwards, I fed her within 30 secs to calm her down and she went straight to sleep as we left.

I’ve never heard this. I was nursing my son when he got all of his jags! It’s proven to reduce pain for babies under age 1 too :-) https://www.cochrane.org/CD011248/SYMPT_does-breastfeeding-reduce-vaccination-pain-babies-aged-1-12-months

That nurse is on crack

@Sarah that’s what I thought!!

@Rachel I thought the same 😟

@Kassia 😂

Breastfeeding is pain relief and comfort for them, I always feed my baby to sleep in the waiting room straight after

I’ve never heard this either as o gave a bottle right after the jabs while still at the GP!

I nursed my baby while she was being vaccinated all three times to keep her calm. Nobody said anything.

Gave formula straight away nurse said as long as it makes her feel better and calms her down. ❤️ don't know what your nurse is on

The nurse I had told me to breastfeed in the waiting room straight after to calm her down!

Umm… I take a bottle of milk with me and the second and I mean the second my child cries from those jabs, I put the bottle right in her mouth and she settles right down. Maybe that’s not the best method, but I can’t hear my child scream in pain like that and she’s always so happy after she drinks the milk whereas other kids will still be crying by the time mine is smiling. All has been fine and every doctor has seen me do it without saying a word

Nope, never heard of that.

I fed immediately after her jabs all 3 times, on the boob before we even left the room. I mentioned about feeding during but the nurse who did her first 2 sets said its not recommended as she can gasp/take in intake of breath when the jabs go in which can risk breathing in the milk, then the 3rd set the nurse asked if I wanted to feed during them so 🤷🏼‍♀️ The Rotavirus one needs to be readministered if baby is sick in the first half hour after having it though but, unless your baby is particularly refluxy, feeding shouldn't be an issue.

What? I never heard of this before and if someone had told me that I would have just laughed at them. My babies got straight to the boob after the jabs x

Nonsense

Thanks all. I have the same person for the next jabs so I’m definitely going to challenge her ❤️❤️ thank you for the reassurance xxx

That’s so strange as the nurse told me to feed my son during the jabs as it’s kept him calm to the point he didn’t even cry

Bollocks! Definitely call her out next time x

My Ped told me to feed my daughter after hers, they gave me time to do so before we checked out. The nurse is wrong

Nurse sounds like a twat

Never heard of such thing it’s actually the opposite you should nurse after the vacccin

Wow! That is the opposite to what I’ve experienced Nurses where I’m at in Australia tell you to breastfeed the baby straight after jabs to comfort them! Even if it’s not yet time to nurse. This is for their 1st jabs specifically 🫶

That's absolute crock and there are many that suggest you feed during the immunisations as pain relief. I would put a complaint in about her with reference to the source @Rachel has linked.

I bf my boy while he got his jabs every time because it settled him. Nurse said it was 100% fine.
