BSL sign language

My little one is only 10 weeks old but we want to teach her some basic signing when she’s old enough. Has anyone looked into this or started doing it with their little ones?

I’m a special needs teacher and a new mummy so will be doing this with my LO. I would start with the basics such as more, go and yes. Makaton signs might be easier for her to pick up☺️

With my eldest daughter we attended sing and sign lessons from about 4 months old! She’s now 2.5 years old and still signs most ‘simple’ gestures as well as saying the word! I absolutely think it’s so important and beneficial and will be doing it for my youngest to! It was also fun to learn! Xx

@Alice amazing! Have you started already?

I attended classes with my eldest from 7 weeks old and she (now three) has a language of approximately 200 BSL signs. It's been incredible for her to be able to communicate before she could talk and now to support her verbal language. I had my son in June and we've just continued to sign with our daughter and he's attended classes with us. I'm looking forward to seeing his own language development through signing.

I ordered these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/1904550045?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title Im gonna order some more to leave with my mam for when she stays there. My LO is 12 weeks now and is just starting to copy like sticking tongue out, blowing raspberries, smiling and laughing. Im thinking when she starts having more control with her hands then I’ll start going through the books with her and hopefully she’ll start picking up little bits x

I know makaton for my job so I plan on teaching it to my baby as he grows 😊

I did this with my oldest daughter who is now 3 when she was around 6 months and we started blw. Only did simple ones like more, all done ect but she picked up on it really fast and really helped our blw journey! 100% recommend ☺️
