Tubal ligation during c section

Has anyone had their tubes tied at the same time as their c section? This will be my third baby and third c section, I definitely don't want anymore kids. My surgeon has offered me this procedure at the same time and I've read that the statistics for protecting against pregnancy are good but as with anything is not 100%. Roughly 1 in every 100 women still get pregnant which is 1% but apparently if you do happen to still get pregnant there is significant risk of ectopic. Can anyone advise if they had it done or know anyone who's had it done and it's been fine? Will it be a longer recovery on top of the c section?

I had 4 c-sections and a tubal done with the last one(same time). I didn’t have a longer recovery time. This was over 12 years ago and no pregnancies. If you’re sure you are going to have a tubal, I recommend doing it at the same time as the c-section.

Had a c section and tubal ligation done at the same time November 2023. Recovery was not longer. This was also my second pregnancy and c section. There was no difference in recovery times. I’ve read you don’t want to do it at a different time because it’s another major surgery. Might as well get it all done together

I asked my doctor about this- he said it’s much different than it used to be, they actually remove the tubes completely. So once it’s don’t you’re completely sterilized. No more babies and they cannot reverse it

@Kenna do you still have periods? I would be worried complete removal would cause early menopause surely?

@Laura I had my tubes removed after my baby was born via c section this May and I can assure you you still have periods unfortunately lol

I’m debating asking about this too as I really don’t want any hormonal contraceptives after as I believe they have been a big impact on me and since stopping them I’m a completely different person but I’m worried as I have endometriosis and heard makes periods heavier

@Alexis I guess that's good news and not so good news 🤣

@Lana same! I was on the pill with no issues whatsoever from age 16 right up until I had my first child and then from my first child to my second child with no issues. After I had my second it was a nightmare with bleeding. I really don't want to go back on hormonal contraception after this one but I'm worried about having the procedure. Even though I know I don't want anymore children it's a massive decision.

Ask for a tubal removal instead of tying. It's what most Drs are doing now. No chance of ectopic pregnancy because your tubes are gone. No chance of ovarian cancer because they found it starts in the tubes and moves to the ovaries...no tubes = no ovarian cancer. It added zero time to my recovery and only added about 10 minutes to my c section! Adding after reading comments...yes you still have a period with tubal removal. You still have ovaries and a uterus so it doesn't affect hormones at all. The fallopian tubes are just removed so no eggs can go to the uterus for fertilization
