Transitioning to milk

So my daughter is finally one and the doctor said to put her on whole milk. I did and she had diarrhea nonstop so much it was giving her a rash. So I switched to Ripple milk and Ripple for kids but now she’s always constipated like little poop balls and an occasional blow out. So what do I give her now? She can’t be constipated all the time! Suggestions please???

You can breast feed until 2+ is that an option?

You don’t have to give your child milk at all!! Breastfeed as long as you both are wanting!

I work in a nursery and a lot of the parents there have been suggest to try semi-skimmed milk by the doctors when their children have had diarrhoea from whole milk. Hope that helps!

You can always slowly introduce it instead of switching completely. We switched out an ounce every couple of weeks with 3.25 goat milk. Now we're doing the same with cow's milk hoping to switch him over by 2

@Alexia i don’t produce enough to breastfeed and she stopped wanting breast milk about 7 months. I think it was bc she got more from the formula since I had to go back to work.

@Kyrstin i don’t produce enough to breastfeed and she stopped wanting breast milk about 7 months. I think it was bc she got more from the formula since I had to go back to work.

@Ellie I started out with formula and milk and the same outcome

I weaned her slowly onto it. First week I dropped an oz of formula and added an oz of cows milk. Second week dropped two ozs and added two ozs of milk… until eventually it was all cows milk and her stomach was okay with that.

Mixing breast milk and whole gradually reducing the amount of breast milk is what I did. Took a few weeks but eventually transitioned okay.

Goat milk is sometimes easier for some to tolerate, so that would be worth trying. Also maybe try A2 cows milk if you can find it (Whole Foods and Safeway have it in our area). I’m assuming the formula was cow milk based? What sort of other food is she getting? Is soy milk not an option?

I get diarrhea and weird reactions to “standard” cow milk, but am ok with A2 cow milk and goat milk. I’m sorry you’re struggling with this, food sensitivities are really confusing and hard to pin down. Does she react the same way to yogurt and cheese out of curiosity?

@Ellen no but we don’t give her a lot of cheese or yogurt tbh

You don't have to give her milk at all, she can get the calcium she needs from other types of dairy. However if you do want to give her milk, you can try goats milk which is easier to digest than cows milk and see how it does. I presume almond milk or oats milk could be options too :)

@Dani was she always on formula? Also goat milk is a lot easier on the digestive system

@Ellie yes she’s been on formula and breast milk since she was about a month. I tried a lactose dairy milk the other day and so far it’s kind of working with her. I’ll see how it goes. I might switch to goat milk .
