At home Fetal Doppler

Has anyone used an at home fetal Doppler? I’m currently 16 weeks and 5 days pregnant and I am thinking of investing in a Doppler; has anyone used one and was it accurate? I get really anxious when I don’t feel flutters or little movements so would the doppler be a good investment? Please let me know xx Thank you 💗

As someone who gets anxious and overthinks, I would never get one. Imagine you couldn’t locate the heartbeat for a completely logical reason - would you freak out?

Please don’t get a Doppler! These are strongly advised against by nhs/medical staff and baby loss groups. Medical staff train for several years to use these. Home ones are not regulated and hard to know if you are picking up babies heartbeat and they can be inaccurate. It can cause more anxiety if you struggle to find the heartbeat. It’s not a good indicator of babies health later on, you should go by movement pattern and so if one day felt less movement you’d go into maternity, not use a doppler to reassure - they can be dangerous for this reason. I think it would be terrible for anxiety and make it so much worse. 16 weeks is early for movement and not expected and definitely not consistent. Most first movement is 20-24 weeks and then a pattern will take shape but can be up to 28 weeks to become known/regular. The range is huge and will depend on baby and placenta placement etc.

I purchased one but they are a lotttt weaker than the ones they have in the hospital/obgyn office. I would not waste your money and instead schedule additional ultrasounds if you’re nervous.

Also- at 16 weeks Your baby is sooo tiny and you would need to know exactly where to look for the heartbeat as well which is stressful when you want peace of mind.

I know pregnancy is an anxious time but honestly the chances are 99% more likely for everything to be fine. You can’t control much in pregnancy outside of looking after yourself as best as possible. You do need to try and let go a bit and trust the process and think positively. I know it’s easier said then done as had 2 losses, then my girl and now pregnant again but honestly you won’t do yourself any good by getting over anxious. Find some ways to try and relax and keep busy. The movement will come (but give it time) and then that’ll be your best indicator. Please don’t get a Doppler!

I had one with my first pregnancy and loved it. It was a good investment for me. Since you get really anxious, it could be 50/50 if it would be a good investment for you because they are not like the ones doctors/sonograpgers use. I found my baby heartbeat most of the time when I used it, but sometimes it was hard if I wasn't in the right spot, and that can make you think the worst.

Have one and loved using it before I could feel him move

I bought one on Vinted for my second pregnancy and used it until I started feeling baby movements. I found it helped me a lot calm my anxiety, although I tried to use it max twice a week as it sends out waves and I didn’t want to disturb the baby.

Please don’t get one, they are harder to use than we like to think and every time you will struggle to find the heart beat you will freak out even if Baby is actually perfectly fine

It isn’t recommended bc it can give a false sense of security or cause more anxiety if you’re having difficulty finding the heartbeat. It’s also unnecessary exposure for your baby, with a device that is not medical/hospital grade. Just go to L&D if you are worried about reduced movement once baby is on a more regular movement schedule. Also, if god forbid something did happen, you 100% would not want to find out that way vs. in a doctors office where they can support you and answer questions.

I did and I thought it was a waste. It was so hard for me to find her hb cause she kept moving and I didn’t exactly know where to find it.

I had One, but Im not an anxious person. I just wanted to hear my baby... I used it after my doctor's apointment and looked for the sound on the same área... It worked fine. When the kicks started i stoped using it...
