Whooping Cough

Hey ladies, So my son is 8 months old and just caught the whooping cough from playgroup…. And I’m just wondering how the hell I give him the antibiotics 😂 I’ve already had to wrestle him down to try and give it to him and he spat most of it up. I tried letting him hold the syringe and then doing it that way… nothing is working and he all comes back up, any tips?

Put it in his mouth right at the side then blow on his face as you administer it. Always how we get Calpol in

@Louise oh this is smart! Thank you!!!

@Kayla he doesn’t take a bottle, but I will try this!!!

Does he take a pacifier? Frida makes one that attaches to a medicine syringe

It also sometimes helped with my LO of I would pretend to take her meds first and act like it was so yummy

Put it in his milk

@Marisa he doesn’t 😫 he hates them haha I saw that! It’s so good! I’ve tried pretending, he doesn’t fall for it 😂

@Ellie he’s breastfeed

We squish the sides of our kids cheeks to make their lips into the 'fish' shape and drop medication into the sides of the cheeks. With her lips in the 'fish lip' position they can't spit, they have to swallow it.

You can also break the latch with a syringe while he's breastfeeding, just poke the syringe next to your nipple and give bits at a time

So was mine. I pumped enough to mix with the meds. So much easier than trying to fight

@Ellie unfortunately he doesn’t take the bottle at all, he refuses it, so I can’t pump and give it to him

@May oh I will try this! Thank you!!!

Does he ever drink from any type of cup? My LO hated bottles, but would drink from a straw cup. You could always try mixing it in something like that. Or even just sometimes putting milk in the syringe instead of the medicine so it won't have as strong of a negative association
