Crying going into nursery

My wee boy started nursery about 4 weeks ago and was really good at going into nursery without crying. This past week, he's started bursting into tears when we hand him over in the morning and it's breaking my heart. I feel so guilty. They say he settles pretty quickly and generally is in a better mood by the afternoon but just worry that he's sad at nursery. Can anyone offer any reassurance please? Is this just a phase and will pass?

My LB has been going since May and he still cries every time I drop him off. He does only go 1 and a half days so it’s taken him ages to actually settle but he’s always absolutely fine at pick up & I get pictures & updates through out the day that make me feel better! do they have an app at your nursery so you can be updated throughout the day? xx

Mine has been going for 2 months and still cries on handover, but I think settles quite quickly when there. I get some photos but also he eats everything there which is an indication to me that he is feeling OK! When I pick him up I often get a glimpse of him playing happily before he actually clocks that I've arrived, then he's very happy haha

From speaking to friends with older ones they said the crying on drop off can go on quite a long time 😬

My son used to be fine but has gone through a recent stage of whinging when I handed him over. I think it's just a clingy stage as I know he is fine the minute they close the door! I can see from his Care Diary and photos that he is enjoying himself so don't let it bother me.

It is a phase and will pass. It's a big adjustment for them and they just miss you at first! Once they realise you always come back it tends to stop. Generally they say it takes around 6 weeks for them to settle into nursery. We're in week 7 or 8 now and he's still crying at drop off but is fine at pick up now and does great whilst he's there! They upload photos to an app through out the day so I can see what he's up to and that he's happy. Does your nursery have anything like that? I find it really reassuring being able to see him enjoying himself.

They will go through phases with it throughout the many years they go there. My boy was going for 3 months without crying a single day at drop off. Then all of a sudden he started, lasted about 2 weeks I’d say and then he was absolutely fine again x

We had this, ok then crying and now back to ok. Unless he’s sleepy or teething. I think it’s gonna come and go. It’s sooooo hard to see them sad, my boy waves whilst crying 💔

@Natalie ah he waves whilst crying this just made me well up 🥹 it is so hard leaving them when they’re upset.
