Fussy feeding

My 2 week old is being really fussy whilst I'm breast feeding. Pulling back on my nipple and almost tugging at it between his gums. What is this a sign of/mean??

Maybe trying to stimulate more milk supply. Our 12 day old has a stuffy nose and it’s causing her to fuss a lot more at the breast.

I have this with my nearly 2 week old.. are you getting a deep latch? I have a fast let down meaning she can’t cope with the flow of milk and will come off my nipple regularly for a break otherwise she will cough and splutter.. which I have been told is normal. Has your little one also been assessed for a tongue tie? Not saying it is or making you worried but being fussy on the breast whilst feeding can also be a sign of this. Might be worth speaking to a member of the feeding team if you have one in your area.. it could also be positional too!

@Adele thank you 🥰 no, he really struggles with a deep latch. We have also been referred for tongue tie as my midwife thinks he may have one - so this could be the reason. Just not nice for us mums having our nipples ripped off at every feed 🥴 x

No no! It’s not pleasant at all! But please know you’re doing amazing 🥰 you’ve come so far and should be proud of yourself! Breast feeding and the journey can be BRUTAL but I’ve heard it’s so worth it!! Fingers crossed the tongue tie gets sorted if that’s the problem.. I’ve also been recommended to look into bodywork/craniosacral therapy to do with tension in their necks from being in the womb! Apparently this affects their feeding too! Might be worth looking into! Good luck with your breast feeding journey ❤️ xx

Thank you Adele. I really appreciate your advice and taking the time to reply 🥰 x
