Nursery

My LG had day 2 of nursery and is finding it hard to settle as expected. I went to collect her early and saw on the screen she was sat in a tuff tuff tray with another baby and key worker also sat there. I thought she was playing but when I looked closer she was flapping her arms and crying 🥹 Now should the key worker tried to have comfort her or was she trying to distract her/play. I went in the room and picked her up and she was ok. They told me she had quite an emotional day and has been crying on and off. Also, they have rockers (bouncers) which they use to put some babies to sleep in. I think my baby has slept in there for her whole nap (not long) but shouldn’t nurseries be taking babies out of rockers and placing down?

Babies can take time to settle at nursery, for sure. My little one has been going for 2½ weeks and is still very emotional and wants to always be carried or sit on someone's lap. But they can't do that necessarily as they have so many babies to look after. When your baby was crying in the tuff tray, I would say they were most likely trying to distract her. I would have thought that if she didn't settle then they would pick her up. But they try with other techniques first. Regarding the sleeping, I think they let them sleep whenever the baby is comfortable, as long as it is safe. My little one, on the settle in session, fell asleep on the floor, in the corner of the room. It was absolutely safe as the other kids were having lunch so there was not a risk of my little one being stepped on. Normally, they use little cot beds in a separate room but they also have other options. I think the concept is "if baby is asleep in a safe space, don't wake them". Hope your little one settles in soon 🤞
