I wish I’d gone straight is c-section rather than an emergency one after going through labour first. No issues after. Would do it again if I was having more- much better than labour.
I felt exactly the same (I had twins - twin 1 was breech). But the section was the most magical, calm experience ever. I would do it again in a heart beat & I’m only 3 weeks post section. The recovery (despite my little Complications) has been very smooth so far too. It’s the lushest thing. I promise you, you will be okay & your baby will arrive & the whole room will be filled with love 🫶🏼.
Definitely ask for lactulose if you feel pain in shoulders/upper back from trapped wind and also to help with bowel movements! I begged them to let me go after 2 days cause I hadn't been to the loo only passed urine! Lactulose helped massively!
Drink lots of peppermint tea too afterwards and lots of water, it really does seem to help with the trapped wind and bloating! Mine was emergency c-section after failed induction due to pre-eclampsia and I wish I had asked for the section from the get go! It was actually quite a nice experience and everyone was absolutely excellent in theatre, really put me at ease xx
I was planned c section all my pregnancy and then at the end my baby was breech and very stuck in her position so would have ended up c section anyway even if I didn't plan on having one haha 😅 but I'm so glad I did as I absolutely loved my experience and will definitely have another elective c section with my current pregnancy ❤️ I can't imagine birthing any other way personally due to many reasons so I'm happy the way I chose was the right way for me that resulted in positive experience.
Thank you everyone!🥰 just nerve wracking. Will get something to stop constipation for sure. Any tips on what to wear afterwards to avoid rubbing on incision?xx
Big knickers that sit as high up as you can get them, nothing too tight around the area and I was told by my midwife to try putting a sanitary towel longways across the incision (stuck to my underwear). It helped when I've had days I've felt extra sensitive, it's acted as a little cushion! Best of luck to you, it'll be sore but every time you look at that baby you'll be reminded that it is completely worth every second of discomfort and it will pass 💖
I found out two weeks ago that my wee one was breech (38+4!) and we elected for a c section. We went in last Weds AM and it was such a calm experience - I had bloods the day before, and had to fast from 10pm. Wee anti acid night before and in the morning with two pre op drinks that didn’t taste bad at all! Once we arrived, we met our theatre midwife who was SO lovely - got changed and went in. Husband connected our music up so the vibes were immaculate (if I say so myself!). and the midwife was so reassuring when I had my spinal and epidural situated. I honestly didn’t feel a thing after the local anaesthetic and even though I could hear the anaesthetists talking, my midwife translated and provided so much reassurance. Once I couldn’t feel anything (which they tested with a cold spray) they asked I pinched myself as hard as I could so I could see myself that I couldn’t feel a thing. At that point, the consultants came across, and we got started. (1/2)
@Hannah wow thank you for sharing! How close to 39 weeks do they try and book you in?xx
Whilst I was waiting I focused a lot on calm breathing and had my eyes closed. Baby boy arrive ten minutes later and we had a lion king moment! We had delayed cord clamping, which husband cut and then straight to skin to skin. Rest of the procedure really didn’t seem to take long and we were all just talking about baby boy. After I was up about 12hrs on, with help, had a shower and felt brand new. Take the pain relief and ask for help that first night - take your time getting up and don’t do too much. Catheter came out following morning and I was due to be discharged later that day. Recovery at home - go steady, it’s funny how you fall into what you used to do so much more. Set a time for your medication and stay on top of it. Make sure you have help lifting and try not to twist. There’s a fab Instagram page called ‘csectionuk’ that have courses for c sections and shows how you can get in/out of bed, as well as look after your scar. You’ve got this 🩷🩷 (2/2)
I had a c section and was so scared about it but honestly the best decision I made. I was more nervous about the injection into my spine than the actual operation but none of it hurt! Take as much time as you need in hospital, don’t rush home. I came out the next day and kind of wish I’d stayed in a little longer as I felt like I had more stresses like house jobs to worry about (even though I couldn’t do anything), whereas in hospital you can just lay in bed, look after baby (and get midwife’s to help with baby) and get your food and meds brought to you. I wore my husband boxers after the operation so it didn’t sit on the stitches so I’d recommend that or just high waited underwear. Also take laxatives after the operation to help going to the toilet (which also didnt hurt)
Appreciate everyone’s responses so much!
This happened to me as my son was breech the whole pregnancy and an unsuccessful ECV, but honestly the whole c section was fine, it ended up being an “emergency one” coz I went into labour naturally but it was calm, I had skin-skin straight after, managed to breastfeed completely fine. Was only in one night and the only part that was hard was the recovery. I would say make sure you have prune pouches and stuff to help prevent constipation and get lots of help whenever offered as it’s hard to move for a while. I also recommend trying to walk day after and then going for short walks a week after out of the house if you can
