Fetal Tachycardia

38 weeks today, just been to my 38 week appointment and baby’s heartbeat was 160-176. Currently waiting at triage and concerned, anyone had this? What was the outcome in your case? Everything looks fine on my side (blood pressure, urine sample, feeling okey) just worried about baby.

I went to my midwife appointment yesterday and she said babies heart rate went up to 188 🥹 I genuinely never got so scared in my life, she was moving around but it wasn’t enough to go that high.. So she called triage and advised me to go and get checked.. They had me on the monitor for 40 minutes everything was fine, tried to send me home and I said I wanted to see a doctor as to why it was happening, they had no idea why it could of been but they are happy with baby etc. but to ease my mind I’m going in for alternative day monitoring, and I’ll be induced at 39 weeks. Just wanted to let you know I’m in the same boat, the anxiety is killing me knowing if she’s actually okay in there when I don’t have a Doppler to check every 2 mins 😭 I’m glad I’m being monitored every other day & being induced but I did have to push for this because they were trying to say she’s fine and I hope to god she is but I’m not waiting any longer than I need too!!

Similar to above. I had a midwife appointment at 37 weeks. Baby's heart rate was between 178 and 194 so was sent to triage. I was monitored for an hour or so and all seemed fine. So was sent home, with an appointment for a scan (this was brought forward 1 week as I was already closely monitored). I went for the scan at 38 weeks and baby had dropped from 21st centile to 4.5th so I had a sweep then and induction booked for a couple of days later. Baby arrived, without needing an induction and is now 5 days old. Baby's heart rate dropped during birth and so had to be delivered quickly and monitored afterwards. But everything worked out!

It’s very normal and actually a good sign if baby has been active just before or during the examination. One of my twins had a tachycardia last week at my midwife appointment. I declined monitoring as he was active while listening. We had another listen 20 minutes later when he’d calmed down and it was normal again

Thanks ladies, definitely the babies keeping us on our toes already. Very reassuring @Ceri-Ann they normally say normal heart rate is 120-160 that feels so scary when it goes out of range. Monitoring was fine, average 139, going to 150ies when he moved and sometimes dropping under 120 to quickly pick up to 130-140, are the drops under 120 normal as well?

Baby had this at my last midwife appointment but she was having a big wiggle and being really active. By the time I got to triage it had settled down

A resting rate of 110-160 (technically 100-160 by some newer guidelines) is normal however babies are like us. If we run up the stairs our heart rate goes up but then settles back down. It’s the same for them, they do lots of wriggling and their heart rate increases. Shows the body is responding appropriately. This is why listening in with Dopplers is a really poor way of assessing fetal wellbeing, in a longer trace we like to see these accelerations and as long as they settle back to the baseline this is actually a reassuring feature

Thanks @Ceri-Ann very informative and reassuring
