RSV vaccine

Hello mamas..I am in a dilemma. I am told I’ll be offered the RSV vaccine at 31 weeks but no one seem to have done it from the people I know and not sure if it’s safe for baby or not since even the midwife said I should do my own research cos they don’t have much to say about it other than it protects the baby for the first 6 months of its life.I am IVF as well so can’t find anything about it either.Has anyone done it?Or if not what is your opinion?

I have the same worries to be honest but I’ve decided I’m going to have it as we’ll be having our babies in peak RSV season. Apparently it cuts down their risk by something like 70% (can’t remember the exact figures!) it’s very new in the UK but been in the USA a little longer. But yeah, also a bit scared!

You might find this helpful: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/respiratory-syncytial-virus-rsv-maternal-vaccination/a-guide-to-rsv-vaccination-for-pregnant-women I've got mine booked in and was genuinely worried about RSV so I see this as a big relief to know I can have something to potentially help prevent it!

I have also been offered the RSV vaccine. When the midwife offered it to me, she said book the appointment and in the meantime do your research about whether or not you want to go ahead with it, if you change your mind , you can just cancel the appt. I have booked it but it worries me that the midwife would tell me to do my own research and wasn’t very reassuring about having it done. I’m still can’t decide what to do!

It’s scary dunno cos they used to offer it in other countries only if you paid and it was as very pricey and suddenly it’s free very weird

I'll be having it as its rife at the mo. Mine is also IVF ❤️.

No way no how for me but everyone has their choice

I've opted out but my MW said the same thing pretty much and whatever I decide to make sure it's an informed one. Xx

@Katherine I think midwifes tell you to do your own research as they can’t force you to do it. My midwife makes it clear that she informs me of my options but I’m to do the research and it’s my decision. I am having the vaccine 👍🏻

@Allison I can’t really make up my mind on it, as it only came out in the uk 1st September it makes me paranoid 😂 although it’s been tested in America and elsewhere I just get too paranoid 😂 however it does seem like a decent vaccine so I’m still unsure.

@Liene I’ve read about how ill babies can get with RSV. I wouldn’t want to put my baby in that position. Im sure the NHS would make sure that the vaccine is safe before allowing us to have it.

@Allison indeed, I would rather not put my son through any illness at all… however I’ve already had the whooping cough vaccine but like I say I just don’t know whether to do this one or not

RSV is rife. I spoke to the nurse from my whooping cough and flu vaccination appointment. It’s been around a while now and she really did stress the importance of having it for my baby. So I will trust in the medical professionals and have the vaccine at 28 weeks. ♥️

I’m glad all you ladies responded I merely asked cos I’m indecisive myself based on it being offered by the NHS only as of lately.I do know it has been offered in other countries and my best friend lives in Germany she is a nurse and was pregnant last year didn’t get it purely cos it wasn’t being offered by their national health system and you had to pay for it and apparently it is a pricey one.I just want to make sure my baby will be fine if I do the vaccine cos I do want to protect him from getting anything after birth it’s just scary that there is not much research on it even from America for pregnant women and just a few rushed trials
