@Jewelz I couldn't understand why they didn't prescribe the lot all at once either. After I had my son via c section last year I was given 6 weeks worth upfront with a sharps bin this is the first time I've had to take it during pregnancy. I'm also on Aspirin daily until 36 weeks.
I'm also on aspirin as well. The only thing I can think is they don't in case of complications?? Only because I also only got 4 weeks of ferrous sulfate (for the ferritin) and I'll have to have my levels checked before they prescribe any more. It still doesn't make sense as I literally just had to ask the right person for more Fragmin 🙃 Maybe it's just a lot of needles, or they don't get as much supplied???
Although I wasn't given too much Aspirin at once either and need to ask for more once I run out. Perhaps it's just the NHS guidelines
Yeah sounds like it could just be their guidelines in that case. I'll go up to the hospital tomorrow and request it apparently a doctor at the antenatal clinic has to sign it off etc. I'll miss a day because I ran out yesterday
As a nurse we’re limited as to how much we can give in one lot. The standard is to give a 28 day supply of medications and then for people to get further as a repeat prescription. Also they may have stock issues on the day to give out multiple prescriptions for fragmins/clexanes so are limited to what they can supply x
I agree, the 28 weeks supply seems to be a standard in my area, too. What I found difficult is that once I managed to get my prescription sorted via the clinic who talk to the consultant's team (it takes some time), I have to pick up the prescription in person at the antenatal clinic, walk over to the hospital pharmacy, and drop the prescription off there. My hospital's pharmacy has 1-2hrs waiting time, so I usually collect on another day. Quite loads of travel for more meds and all these actions have to happen during standard working hours 😅 I have been on fragmin throughout my pregnancy and had loads of fun with this process 🙈😅
@Nora I'm so grateful my hospital pharmacy only had a 20 min wait reading that yours was a 1 - 2 hour wait, gosh!
I started at 28 weeks too and they gave me 4 weeks worth and said to just ask at other appointments in the antenatal unit..... Didn't think until I got home that it was quite a stressful situation! I had a growth scan yesterday which thankfully was 2 days before I ran out. No idea why they don't just give 3 months at least, especially as the usual is to take them until 6 weeks after the birth. Try to contact a midwife or talk to someone in one of the maternity related units/wards 💞
