Baby choking and coughing up phlegm
Please, no judgment. My LO is 9 months old. He was on the floor, and for what I could see, the floor was clear.
Suddenly, my little one is struggling to breathe, is red in the face, and crying. He then starts to bring up handfuls of phlegm. In this time, I was tipping him up and tapping his back and checking his mouth. I was so close to ringing an ambulance, but then he had a drink and was fine.
Since he's done a couple more coughs, itnot as bad as that, but bringing up mucas. My LO does not appear sick in anyway, apart from teething quite bad.
I am trying to work out what happened as it was so quick. Did he find something on the floor? Maybe I didn't see? Maybe choke on his own mucus?
Such a scary experience :(
That sounds so scary! I'm glad he was okay! If he only coughed up phlegm, he probably was just struggling to cough it out. Rest assured, he was not truly choking. I just took my renewal for first aid training, and if they're able to cough and cry, they're getting enough oxygen and, while it may feel like one, it's not an emergency. You can just monitor and encourage your LO to keep coughing.
