Low cervix

Im 10 weeks PP from a vaginal birth that was fairly straightened. I had a slight tear with one stitch that’s fully healed. Bleeding stopped at 5 weeks pp. i have my forest period since birth this week. So I just went to the bathroom and I think I can feel my cervix in my vaginal opening. I went to wipe and there is a bulge that feels like cervical tissue just inside my vaginal opening…. How concerned should I be!? Like can I wait and see what happens? Should I be calling the dr Monday or going to the er tomorrow?

Obviously I can't give you medical advice and you need to listen to your body and your gut. BUT. It sounds like a prolapse, which can be common after having a baby. Did they mention anything at your postpartum visit? It can be worse from sitting on the toilet or staining to go to the bathroom. As long as you're not having pain or heavy bleeding or anything scary like that, you're probably ok to wait and call your GYN on Monday, I don't think there is much the ER can do besides telling you to follow up with your GYN. Do kegel exercises and try to avoid heavy lifting and constipation (pushing to poop can make it feel worse!). Your doc will be able to do an exam and give you options to help! If they don't mention it, you can ask for a referral to a pelvic floor physical therapist (they're great). Hopefully that helps, good luck!!!

@Miche I had extremely heavy bleeding up until an hour ago but I thought that just to be my period and being a ftm pp that it would be much stronger after birth. But now it has completely stopped which seems even more strange. I now also have bad lower back pain which I’ve never had before? What will they do if it is prolapse? Tell me just to rest or is there something they do to fix it?

My postpartum exam at 6 weeks was “perfect”

I'm a ftm as well, haven't had a period yet but heard the first one can be rough! If you're having lots of bleeding and pain, obviously listen to your body and you can get checked out in the ER to make sure it's not something else (I'm sure you've already met your deductible by now anyways if you have US health insurance!). But if things seem to get better, your doc can go over things to help if they think it is a prolapse. I don't want to speak for your doc, but things they might recommend would probably be pelvic floor exercises and rest. If it doesn't get better, there are pessaries and surgical options if needed

Did your OB do a pelvic exam at your 6 week appointment? It is unfortunately not uncommon for prolapse(s) to be missed that early on... But I've also heard stories of OB's who choose to cover things like this up (please don't let this scare you, a pelvic floor therapist can catch it if your OB is shady). I would definitely recommend pelvic floor therapy regardless. It's possible your cervix is low because it's your period. It raises and lowers at the different stages of the mental cycle. But that also doesn't mean it's not lower than is normal. After my second baby (which was only at 20 weeks, so not big and no tears) my cervix was soooo low. I have a tilted uterus so my cervix pointed backwards, and it was grinding against my perineum, and sometimes when I would sit I would sit on my cervix 😭😭😭 it was so painful! My OB was no help but it seems there aren't many thorough ones in the state I moved to. I hope you have far better luck navigating this and that everything goes well 🩷
