I am so upset

Long story short my little girl is 5 months old and has had oral thrush since she was 9 weeks old. The doctors are absolutely useless and she's had 8 BOTTLES of Nystan and it will not go. I have tried absolutely everything. Boiling the bottles after each use, cold sterilisation, steam sterilising, using different methods to apply the medicine, a new syringe every time, putting it on my finger and rubbing, applying directly to the thrush in her mouth. I've looked at my daughters hands and it's now inbetween her fingers so it's spreading. Doctors have asked pediatrics and they've said to use nystan for 14 days which we've done twice! No one can seem to answer my question. Is it safe for her in such quantity? Is this affecting her? Even pediatrics aren't answering the question. I suffer from anxiety really bad anyways and this is causing me so much distress. It's absolutely ruined my postpartum experience. Should I take her to children's a&e and try and get to see pediatrics cause we're just back and forth and the doctors.

There is some new information regarding thrush and it's common miss diagnosis, also as to if it's actually bad or not. I would definitely recommend doing some extra research.

I would deffo attend a&e if you’re not getting anywhere with your GP x

@Charlotte hi, it's definitely thrush

@Elena we have ANOTHER gp appointment tomorrow morning to get some cream for her hands :(

My little girl had oral thrush at two weeks old and I had to use a cream on my nipples to get rid of it as her taking meds wouldn’t work on its own Any chance you might have it, which is why it’s not going ? Much solidarity and hugs it’s awful 🤗

My little one had thrush for weeks too. One pharmacist I spoke to suggested giving baby probiotics to try and introduce some good bacteria. Maybe try that if you haven't done so already?

@Becky hi, im bottle feeding x

@Rebecca I bought some but the gp said no don't give it to her

@Chloe what evidence does the gp have for not using probiotics in thrush infection?

Has anyone ever actually swabbed her mouth? Sometimes the yeast are resistant to the anti fungal in Nystatin so would need another treatment x

@ Chloe if your with SHP I would definitely try to get a second opinion as some doctors there can be rubbish there are some that are good though

We were in the same situation, my May baby had oral thrush pretty much since the day he was born. Nystatin didn’t help at all so I just stopped it.. Daktarin oral gel resolved it within 2 days, however, it’s been out of stock in UK for months now, I managed to get it in Europe so if you have anyone you know going on holiday soon try to get them to try to buy it.

@Stephanie yes been swabbed

@Rugilė how long did your baby have oral thrush for? And how many bottles of nystan did you try

@Chloe he had it pretty much from birth, gave him 2 bottles back to back (I think he was about 2-4weeks then) and it didn’t go anywhere so I asked if there was anything else that could help him and was told about daktarin, my gp dispensary couldn’t get it so I basically called every pharmacy within 30mile or so radius and everyone told me they didn’t have it for a while. I just waited probably 3-4weeks after that as my mum was coming to visit and she could get the daktarin abroad and didn’t give him any more of nystatin as it wasn’t working anyway (it did start with only his cheeks affected but by the time we finished 2nd bottle of nystatin it was on the inside of his lips already). Nystatin was also making him spit up his food quite a lot (realized after I stopped giving it to him and he basically stopped being sick after feeding). So he probably still would have thrush now if I didn’t get daktarin.
