Hand foot and mouth!!

Hey guys, my LO has been super agitated and refusing food for the past few weeks. Especially today she has been super upset and just doesn’t look herself. The past two evenings, very unlike her she has just curled up on the floor to try and sleep near to bedtime. This evening I noticed quite a few spots around her mouth and what seems to be a red rashy sore next to her mouth. They seemed to pop up after her bath. I’m really uneducated about hand foot and mouth and google is just terrifying so any advice would help

Me and my baby both have it atm. He’s over it now he’s just got some blisters left to heal. I’m feeling like absolute crap! My baby went off his food because your mouth can get really sore so I think that’s pretty normal. I tried to offer things that are easy to eat like banana and yogurt and keep offering water. My baby was at his worst for like three days, after that he was fine, just waiting for the rash to completely clear up. My GP said not to give nurofen but to give calpol. All you can really do is wait it out. They can get dehydrated as they go off their food and milk as their mouth gets sore so just monitor babies output in nappies.

My little boy has this at the minute his face looks so sore with blisters and he has a few over his body. He’s also been refusing solids so we’ve just been giving him purées and yoghurt as I think he has the blisters in his mouth too 😫. We went the doctors he did prescribe a throat spray to help with the pain but trying to give it to him is a nightmare 😓 so we have just stuck to neurofen which doc said was fine. He’s been attached to my hip for the last few days but has seen a little better this evening so I’m hoping we’re coming out the other side. Fingers crossed it comes and goes quick for you 🤞🏼x

@Alannah I panic a lot and especially this evening she keeps waking up in hysterics and now I’ve picked her up she’s just trying to bury her head into anything….is this weird

This was exactly us for a few nights I was up from 2:30 as he wouldn’t be put down or go to my partner would only sleep on me 🙃 tonight he’s not stirred yet so I’m hoping for better 🤞🏼

@Katie it’s probably because her mouth is uncomfortable. I also had a bad headache and earache so her head is probably sore in general. It’ll pass in a couple of days. Just monitor temperature and nappy output in the meantime.

@Harriet Rose thank you!!!

My daughter just got over HFMD. It's so hard as they can be unwell before the spots/blisters come out. Unless a high temperature they don't need to go to the drs. Drs told me I can alternative ibuprofen and paracetamol but no more than the recommended doses in a 24hr period. All she would eat was yoghurt and cold smooth foods. Drs said she had a sore throat, redness in her ears, HFMD, a viral infection and possibly teething, she was given amoxicillin. But this was because I couldn't keep her temp down with the 4 doses a day she's allowed as she was up in the night with a temp as well as throughout the day. X

@Deb honestly thank you!! She’s just so unwell and I’ve just moved to a completely different area that I don’t know so just panicking incase we have to go to the doctors

You're welcome. I've over 15 years experience in nurseries, but nothing prepares you for when your own is poorly. Dr. said that if giving paracetamol and ibuprofen allow at least two 2hrs between alternating them, but we did 3/4 hrs so she could have a top-up if needed and didn't have too many doses in a 24hr period. If you do need the drs call 111 and explain if you're not registered to a drs yet and new to the area and they'll advise what to do. We only moved this time last year to a completely new area as well, and it took 3 weeks for us all to complete the registration process X

@Deb thank you again!!! I need you on a 24 hour advice hotline 😂😂

Haha message whenever you need too. I'm not a medical professional but happy to share advice xx
