Terbinafine?

My daughter who is 6 months old got a yeast infection on her armpit and the doctor prescribed terbinafine. Have used it for a day and her skin is now red. I read the leaflet and it says not suitable for children… Is this the case? Has anyone been prescribed it? Will contact them tomorrow…

There’s a lot that will say not suitable for children, but can be prescribed by a GP for kids within reason. I’d imagine it should be ok but if you’re unsure, check. Also if it’s now red and looks worse, it may be something else is needed x

Lots of medications will be prescribed to children but off licence typically so to speak. Because whike they're most often fine, a lot can't be tested on children specifically xx

Thanks. The bad thing is I just sent them a photo and they just sent me a message saying this. More communication is probably needed especially when babies are involved.. Dear parent/guardian of Eva, Rash appears fungal I will send through a cream to campbells for the next 7- 10 days

One thing I was told in my pregnancy when I read the leaflet wasn’t suitable for pregnant women is that pregnant women and children rarely take part in medication trials so there’s never enough evidence collected to say whether it’s harmful or not, so they always have to put that it’s not suitable because they ultimately don’t fully know based upon evidence however GPs will tell you they often prescribe xyz many times and use it to treat many things including the medications which state they aren’t suitable. They’ve likely changed the cream to something more suitable to what they now think it is, likely a different gp with a different opinion xx
