Toddler development

Do your toddlers know you say their own names, how old they are and where they live, what they like etc? My toddler seems to be a bit advanced in things he’s interested in like the alphabet, counting, puzzles etc but he can’t tell me his name or age, if I ask if he’s hungry he just looks at me until i give him choices of what he can have (eg, would you like chicken or fish?) He won’t tell me what’s sore or hurt, even if I ask but he knows all his body parts and what they are called. He is a bit speech delayed but I’ve noticed more and more improvement recently. How would I teach him how old he is and his name etc? I tried busy books, songs, games etc

My little girl can't say how old she is. But she knows her name. Before she started pre school I used to say to her.. when she starts school if someone asks what's her name.. she should say "my name is (then use her name).. this helped her to understand what's her name. With food she doesn't really ask. Unless she's hungry, then she will say "what to eat" or "rice".. that's whn I know she's hungry. if she gets hurt she still doesn't tell me where..

Message me.. my little one was a bit speech delayed and I think she still is.. but there's a huge difference in her speech now.

Maxi is very speech delayed and possibly autistic! He’s only just started to respond to his name! He knows age is a number but just says whatever one he can remember 🤦‍♀️ he’d have no idea where he lives or if you asked what he likes it would be whatever is closest to him at the time! He does say he’s hungry though (I hungry I hungry I hungry on repeat) but never knows what he wants to eat but also he has limited eating!

In regard to teaching him his name we spent ages just telling him your maxi, I’m mummy your maxi!

@Laura have you tried giving him an options. Like a banana and apple and asking him which he would like to eat

@Laura mine is similar! Ive told him over and over “youre 3” and told him his name but he just calls himself “me” and says the first number that comes to mind when asked his age! Maybe it’s just a matter of repeating it until he catches on? I tried songs and stuff but he’s stubborn, if it’s not letters, colours or numbers he’s not interested 😂 He’s only started to want to socialise with older kids, still avoids kids his own age. He can be very lazy so I wonder if that’s a factor, like nearly every day I have to feed him even though he’s very capable!

@sв my little boy will bring me a plate if he’s hungry but unless I pester him he won’t tell me what he would like and I usually get “juice” as an answer Maybe it’ll just take time? Sometimes I think I’m just being dramatic 😂

@sв yes he gets an option every time but when you only eat about 10 foods and gag at the sight of new makes life hard work 🤦‍♀️😂

My boy is good at the practical things, knows the names of all family and neighbours, friends, our employees, etc. Knows his age and that his birthday is in July, and he is trying to get when July is but is not there yet on the concept of time. He knows his surname and his city, he also knows 2-3 counties we have been to and can describe them (Egypt is hot and there sea with fish). But he has zero interest in letters and doesn’t know a single letter. I don’t worry, everyone develops differently and in different time!
