Frozen milk should be used within 24 hours. You can keep it cold using a cooler and icepacks, I'm not sure about rules regarding flights and icepacks etc so you might have to look into that.

You can refreeze milk as long as there are still some chunks of frozen milk in it. I’d look to see if you can bring dry ice or regular ice packs. If not you might have to put it in a cooler lunch bag and then get cups or ice at the airport then you can just dump out the melted ice and get more cups of ice

I’ve traveled a couple times now with frozen breastmilk..my favorite is this lunch box that the ice packs are frozen inside of. I’d definitely suggest using a cooler with ice packs because I’ve had a bag of milk completely unthaw during travel. https://a.co/d/1LVP3Kt

Cooler bag and a few ice blocks can keep it cold for up to 24 hours. I used to pump at work and that’s how I would transport them back to be frozen at home. Out of freezer, I use the same method and ice blocks are very effective as long as you have about 2-4 of them in your cooler bag. I just use a normal lunchbox-size bag.

And no, you should never refreeze your breast milk. Once it’s been thawed, you’ll need to use it within 24 hours, otherwise it’ll have to be bin. It doesn’t matter if it has frozen chunks of milk in it, the rest have already been thawed.

Thank you everyone. Will get the ice lunch box thing.. hopefully it will for me

@Nattinan really??? I mean i did that twice! I didn't knew that! I thought and read it somewhere that if its not thawed completely you can refreeze it! That's what i was going to take while travelling! What do i do now? Should i bin it?

If it’s been refreeze then I wouldn’t trust it, I would bin it, unfortunately. That’s why they recommend you freeze in portions of 4-6 oz, depending on your baby’s needs. You can always defrost more if you need it. If you are going on a trip, I would say just take them out straight from the freezer to a cooler bag. Getting them warmed up is easier than keeping them cool for the longest possible period of time possible. I wouldn’t thaw any beforehand, especially if it’s to be taken on a long flight, or any long trips. You can always dip them in hot water anywhere, you don’t want to have them thawed too soon. Once the milk is completely thawed, it needs to be kept cool, ideally in a fridge, up to 24 hours. It’s all depends on the temperature. It may not last as long in a cooler bag. Always check anyway. Better safe than sorry. @Mariyam

@Mariyam CDC says you can refreeze breast milk as long as there’s ice crystals still present and my lactation consultant also said it was fine, but it’s whatever you’re comfortable with and if your baby isnt immunocompromised.

@Nattinan thanks for the info.. i will what i can do.

@Rosa yeah thats what i heard too... nd i do remember her giving more than once freezed milk, she seemed fine. But now a doubt is arose in my head... let's see what i can do.

@Mariyam I’ve given my son milk that was refrozen a few times. But if I felt it was too unfrozen I’d just refreeze write do not feed and use it as a milk bath ❤️ that way your hardwork isn’t just tossed out.

@Rosa thats a good idea too!! I really dont like throwing away my hard work and pain🥲
