Name change on birth certificate

Is it possible to change baby’s name on the birth certificate without the father’s permission? He was adamant about naming him a junior & i just agreed because of his stubbornness. But he’s so disrespectful towards me i think im going to leave him but i want to change baby’s name

To change the name you need the father's approval if he's on the birth certificate. If he isn't you can go down to the courthouse and get it done yourself if the child is over 1 I believe if they are under 1 I think the hospital you gave birth to can help you change it.

I work in L&D in NY. If the father is on the birth certificate then you will both have to sign the form to change the baby’s name through the Department of Health. If the father is not on the birth certificate you have to submit the request for the change through the Department of Health. There is a fee to change the name. There may be more steps through family court of which I am not familiar. The baby’s age is irrelevant. The hospital will not change the baby’s name unless they made a mistake in entering the information you provided on the form for the original birth certificate, if it is anything other than that you are responsible to make the change. Good luck.
