Pillow helps us until he wakes up. We’ve had a few rough nights but last night was better. Took longer for him to settle and he won’t drink milk which usually gets him. We did get a throat spray from the GP. We have been co-sleeping but I don’t really sleep when we do
All I can say is you're not alone and we went through this a week ago. Have you tried putting the cot at an angle (put something underneath) to help, similar to a pillow
@Steph we’ve done that tonight and she lasted about ten minutes before waking up to cough, sitting up and crying. Rinse and repeat till she coughs again and we give up and hold her 🫠 my husband has a demanding job and can’t be up all night with her so it’s all falling on me
@Yasmin we’re trying the elevating tonight but so far she’s been up once with a coughing fit. She’s gotten herself back down but moves around so much she won’t stay at the end where we’ve elevated it. Every time she coughs she wakes and cries 😞 this is the third night and I’m so tired. When you say chest sleeping do you mean baby sleeping on me while I hold her on my chest? I’m quite short and she’s getting bigger so I’m not sure I’d be able to do this.
Yeah so I propped myself up with pillows at an angle in the middle of the bed so if he fell it would only be onto the bed then he slept with one leg either side of my hips and on my chest almost in the same position they’d be in in a baby carrier. Admittedly I’m not short but baby is 90th centile for height and it worked for us it was the only way he’d settle for a few hours and I could at least shut my eyes. We also found offering water everytime he woke was semi helpful as they say that hydration helps to reduce coughs and all the coughing must dry their throats out. One night he polished a cup and a half on top of his milk x
I'm going through this atm as well. My LB has had a cough and cold for over 5 weeks now (picked up a secondary infection). We're using everything you are, plus a pillow to raise him up slightly. The pillow helps our LB initially, but once he wakes up the only way to get him back to sleep is in my arms. He's been coughing so much he's being sick.. last night threw up all over our bed and down me, 3 clothes change for him last night too. We're all exhausted. You can see LO is so tired, but as soon as he settles the coughing starts again. Can't wait for it to be over. I hope your LO is feeling better asap x
I wouldn’t give the jabs until she’s 100% recovered which is unlikely to be by next week. We’ve just been through this and it was hard! Is safely chest sleeping an option? It was the only way I got any rest at all. Also try and elevate the cot slightly at one end. We placed some towels evenly under the cot mattress at one end as being slightly elevated helped the coughing. He was coughing so much he’d make himself sick multiple times a night and that really seemed to help him. Hope your LO feels better soon x
