@Amber I’ve been avoiding feeding her with the one that won’t produce because I’m worried she’s not getting enough.
She’s little so will only need small amounts of breast milk. They take less in breast milk the formula. The more you put her to your breast the more milk you will produce for her as she grows etc. it may be worth visiting a breast feeding clinic for advice x
And I was told baby will always get more milk from the breast than a pump will x
It’s normal to have a bit of a slacker boob, my right definitely produces more than my left but i make sure to put her to my left so that it keeps producing, the more you put her to the breast the more you will produce. It works on supply and demand so if you don’t put her to the boob as much you won’t produce what she actually needs, pumping isn’t a great indicator of supply either as baby is far more efficient at removing milk than a pump is. Keep trying you got this! Good luck x
Since you said you’ve been avoiding feeding her off the lower producing one, that’s probably why you’re producing less on that side. it’s all supply and demand and that goes for individual breasts too! some people feed exclusively on one side and the body compensates by producing all the milk on one breast and nothing from the other. she’s so little right now she doesn’t need much milk at all, and the first 6 weeks are so important for establishing your supply, right now she’s working on making sure your body is making exactly what she needs! cluster feeding is essential for this and often gives the impression that they’re underfed and hungry but it’s an important step to regulating your supply. as long as she is having plenty of wet & dirty nappies there is nothing at all to worry about🩷 pumping also isn’t representative of supply as babies are much more efficient at removing milk than a pump. just keep latching and feed on demand and your body will do the rest!
&& supplementing with formula will only decrease your supply as your body will assume your baby is satisfied with a lower amount of breastmilk. unless she is having dry nappies or dropping multiple centiles you don’t need to be adding in formula at all, just latch her at every opportunity and let her tell your body exactly what she needs 🫶🏼
@Katie "slacker boob" cracked me up as I'm awake feeding baby off mine 🤣 As others have said, you want to be offering the breast as often as baby will take it to increase supply and baby is always far more efficient at getting milk out than a pump ☺️ I've been having dad give baby a bottle of formula around 8pm and the most he's taken has been 30ml at 9 days old so they really don't need as much as you think x
@Amber twice tonight i’ve tried to feed my baby off mine and she said ✨no✨ so had to give in and give her the good one😂
@Katie this is EXACTLY what happened last night. I tried putting her on the ‘slacker boob’ and she said absolutely not
@J when that happens offer the good one firat and then offer the other when she’s done! X
My left seems to produce more than my right based on how engorged it gets, I think it's fairly normal tbh. I've just been offering the right breast slightly more frequently to try and increase supply x
