Newly single Mother

Hi there, Completely new situation for me. I’m in private rented property and have a 2 year old. I work part time and wouldn’t be able to afford, rent, bills, food and nursery fees on my own. Never claimed any benefits before so completely clueless as to what my next steps are. We don’t have family nearby so no option to move in with them. Plus I enjoy my job and my little one is settled into his nursery and has friends. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you 🙏

Depending on how much you earn you would be entitled to Universal Credit (can’t remember the cap limit before deductions) and you’re also entitled to Child Benefit that does affect the Benefit Cap. You’ve also got childcare hours which you’d be entitled to (if not already claiming) and UC will pay up to 80% back on your childcare costs. Universal Credit also has the Housing Benefit element to it which I get. I’m more than happy to go through my income with you privately so you can have a better understanding on how I afford everything x
