My LO is EBF, so it was not a recommendation we got at our review. Is it a 360 cup you use? We also use tommee tippee, but it is a sippy cup, so it does not leak. For the straw, have you tried to give it to her with some yoghurt at the end? As that can help her lean to suck on the straw, you can also take some water in the straw by sealing off one end with your finger and then letting her try and suck it out while you release your finger, so she gets the water - it worked for my LO along with some role modeling 🙂
With my munchkin straw cup I ended up cutting the straw just after the valve as I’ve found with both my kids the valve was too tricky to work, it had to be bit on a very specific amount for the water to flow properly. And as Sara said, I’d put something on the end to try and get them to suck. Also, although it says not to do this on some, I let her suck pouches sometimes. So that meant as she was sucking I could squeeze it into her mouth, making the association of a ‘straw’ and sucking. But I only do that very very occasionally, I think I only had to do it twice until it clicked with her and she attempted the same for the water. It’s the same way I did it with my older child.
@Molly I have seen those I just don’t feel like she would grasp it, but maybe I will try, I think she likes a teat but I’m not sure what kind would be best.
@Sara it’s the sippy cup, but it’s free flowing so if she has finished with it she can tip it and it will just pour out which I’m worried with milk and it also seems quite fast for me to give her milk in for her bedtime bottle? So I’m confused as to what’s best. I will try with the straw, I have tried to do it myself to show her and also put water in the straw but she pushes it away 😂🙈
@Megan thank you I will give this a try too!
I'm going to be getting some cups for my little one because my health visitor has told me the same
My daughter uses the NUK 360 cup. There’s no test nor straw it’s like drinking from a normal cup it just is non spill xx
