Do you take your kid in immediately for suspected pink eye or only if it worsens?

My kiddo just woke up with a fairly swollen eye stuck shut from mucus. I cleaned it off with a warm wash cloth and can tell it’s not swollen shut but I can’t get a decent look at his eye either. He fought me to keep me from cleaning it but he hates his face cleaned so who knows if it was that or pain. His appetite seems a little down but not terribly. He says it’s not owie. I’m just a FTM and not sure if pink eye is a “just go in” or a “monitor first” condition.

You need antibacterial eye drops to clear it. I would go in, it’s highly contagious.

@Michelle Thank you! My mom friend texted me the same so I think Google got this one wrong and I an def on my way in lol

That would be an immediate pediatrician visit for me because you need to know if it's bacterial or viral. If it's the former, you'll want to administer drops asap because it's highly contagious (and make sure you're washing your hands constantly/not touching your face). If not, you'll wait it out but it's better to be sure!

I called her doctor's office and she sent eye drops to the pharmacy based off the symptoms and they were definitely not to the point you're describing so I would call

I don't take my kids in for pink eye. I use colloidal silver drops in the eye and it clears it up. We've only ever had it once

@Aubrey I’ve been meaning to invest in some of this! Can you share the brand you use?

@Hanna yeah! Good to have on hand for ear infections, pink eye and to clean anything else, like cuts to prevent infection. I gargle a little bit when I'm starting to get a sore throat. The brand I have is called SOMA but there's lots of different brands.
