My daughters doing the same unfortunately but since I’m still nursing it doesn’t worry me too much I have no clue why she may be doing it except teething or a liking to certain foods more then others 🥺 sorry to not be too helpful
I cut all snacks when my son started doing this so he'd be hungry for meals, also his meal portion got smaller. When he starts to swipe his food and his plate off the table I take his plate away and feed him his bites, he'll end up eating more but not all his food.
@Sara he has been teething too.. I breastfeed him as well and I feel so bad when he doesn't eat much .
@Jasmine yes he takes whole milk sometimes but mainly wants to nurse & tbh he's been nursing a lot more than usual and I'm guessing it's because he doesn't want to eat much . It's okay 🥲 don't be sorry.. I also was wondering if any other moms are going through the same thing right now ! Thank you 💗
@Gavinga I should try to cut his snacks then .. I took his food away yesterday when he started throwing some off his plate and he threw a tantrum. So I gave in and gave him snacks to calm him down . I'll try cutting snacks and see how it works. Thank you
Totally normal! My 4y & 3y still do it. I put the food I want them to eat on a plate next to the food they want to eat every time I serve them something. Starting with Small portions of what I want them to eat, and try my hardest to convince them it’s delicious. And slowly make the snack portion smaller and the other larger. Usually takes 3 days to a full week! My daughter has been a bit more stubborn, it could take her up to month to just try something she loved 3 months ago 😅. My kids pedi and MIL have a saying “they’ll eat it when they need it, and when they don’t; they won’t.”
My daughter recently hasn’t been wanting to try certain foods or spits it out after the first bite. I just offer it to her 5,6,7 times until she finally tries it. I read that what you’re supposed to do when they refuse food for 10+ minutes like your saying is take them out of the high chair, let them play for an hour or so and try again. If you offer the snack foods right after they refuse other foods they learn that that is how they get what they want so avoid that. I’d actually cut back on these snack foods significantly. They won’t starve themselves, believe me, once they’re hungry enough they will eat what you offer.
My daughter goes through phases it seems like teething has only shown up as an issue for us when it comes to eating? She does still nurse so I worry a little less about her getting nutrients but as far as food goes she definitely will not eat randomly
