Aspirin

Hi all! I had my 12 week scan on Tuesday and midwife rang yesterday to say I need to start taking aspirin … I know this is linked to pre eclampsia and the midwife did say nothing to worry about but my anxiety is crazy! Is anyone in the same boat? Is this common? I’m a first time anxious momma x

Did you have the blood test where they check Paap-A?xx

Hey! Yes I was told I need to start taking aspirin from 12 weeks aswell at my booking appointment. As far as I’m aware it’s precautionary and nothing to worry about! But I feel much the same 🙈 I know lots of people who have been asked to take it though so that’s making me feel slightly better x

@Charlotte I presume so? I’m not 100% sure … it was offered to me at the 12 week scan xx

@Maddie oh that’s good to know! Thank you xx

Me, I was also prescribed aspirin at 12 weeks. Mine was because I had two risk factors, my BMI and the fact I'm a first-time mum. Has the midwife written to your GP for a prescription? It needs to be low dose, and if it's on prescription you don't have to pay. I found this website helpful for understanding the why https://www.guysandstthomas.nhs.uk/health-information/low-dose-aspirin-in-pregnancy-to-prevent-pre-eclampsia

I’m taking 150mg of aspirin up until I’m 37 weeks, this is due to my little girl being born premature. I started taking them around 6 weeks after I had a bleed and went to the early pregnancy unit, the doctors gave me my prescription and explained to me why I was on them and how long I have to take them for etc x

Totally normal, just helps to try and prevent pre eclampsia I started them from 12 weeks all the way through xx

I was also told to take this. Women in my family including my mum had it so it’s just a precaution.

Yep, evidence shows it reduces the risk of pre eclampsia. It’s quite commonly prescribed

I’ve started taking aspirin from 12 weeks, I had previous high blood pressure so have been prescribed for the rest of the pregnancy.
