Laryngomalacia

Does anyone here have their baby being diagnosed with this? My baby is 2 months old and she does this high pitch sound sometimes at random times. GP said it's likely to be this condition.

Yes my little boy has. We’re awaiting an urgent ENT appointment as it seems quite severe.

Hi Emily can I ask what made the doctors/you classify it as severe? My lg has this and I think it’s quite bad as she struggles with breathing (retractions when breathing) and have had to be in overnight for obs at hospital - but they not doing anything further :( wondering if I should push it c

I’ve had the exact same thing- I’ve been up and down to a&e due to struggling to breathe it’s been awful- with laryngomalacia- they tend to grow out of it so there’s nothing really that they will do, it’s so complex and some symptoms cross over to silent reflux and also bronciolitis- absolutely minefield- my baby has struggled with terrible congestion since 2 weeks old so I spend the majority of the nights checking the owlet 😣

By how loud it is really - the GP said it needed looking at. We live in an old house (so thick walls) and I can hear my husband feeding him downstairs when I’m upstairs with the door shut. He’s loud when feeding and asleep. He kind of pants (but very squeaky!) in between swallowing. They’ve given Omeprazole for reflux as there’s often a link between the two, but as far as I’m aware unless it’s actually causing breathing struggles they don’t treat it. I just wanted the reassurance of somebody to tell me it sounds worse than it actually is!

Yeah I would say it sounds worse than it is- the medical professionals just continue to say that if they’re gaining weight, wet nappies and feeding ok the don’t intervene at all 🤯 it’s frustrating at times but they don’t treat it but yes my family or friends reaction when they hear him makes me realise how bad it sounds 😳

@Katie same here! Even my 3 year old asked me to stop him squeeking - was clearly disturbing his Paw Patrol watching 😂

Thank you all! I am so sorry to hear all the distress this is bringing to you. I am super paranoid too as I also lost my first daughter last year. Although in this case, my baby can breathe easily 90% of the time, she just gets that weird high pitch sound when she is stressed out or too excited to eat... I was also told to keep an eye on her tummy (not a good sign if I see her ribs for example) and her turning blue (obviously). She also stopped breathing for a split second once when she was crying bloody murder... It terrified me to death

@Katie it’s like youve described my baby! Nice to know it’s not just me x
