Crib transition to toddler bed?

With my eldest I took the side off her cot at 18 months and then when she was 2 years 2 months she just went into a normal single bed, I didn’t see the point in buying a toddler bed then needing to buy a single bed a couple of years later anyway!
My boy is 2 year 2 months and we are going from cot to toddler bed this week, we have gone with a bed with sides as he moves around loads at night and don’t want him falling out all the time. I’m thinking he will be in there for a few years and then we will move to a double bed. Also pregnant with number too and I won’t be able to place him in his cot soon as I’m short plus pregnant belly don’t work well together 😂 x
My daughter was put in the toddler bed and she loves it. Sometimes she’ll put herself down for a nap/bed
We skipped the toddler bed at 2 years. We have the ikea singlar crib that can transition to a “bed” by removing one side but it didn’t work for us. It was too high from the floor and he was still trying to jump off the other fenced side. This lasted just until we got a floor bed and mattress a week later. Also. I still felt that the singlar bed was too small for him.
