My baby has whooping cough

My baby is 6 weeks old he caught it from me šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø I didnā€™t have the whooping cough vaccine when I was pregnant ( I didnā€™t know how serious it is and I wish I got it) heā€™s had it for maybe About a week and a half. Iā€™ve taken him to the hospital a few times the first time I took him it was because when he was sleeping he suddenly gasped for air, turned blue and wasnā€™t responding to me when I picked him up. It him maybe a few seconds for him to open his eyes. The other times I took him I was just concerned about his coughing and vomiting and trouble breathing when coughing. What do I even do I feel all alone. The hospital told me itā€™s just gotta run its course but how the heck is he gonna survive this if Iā€™m struggling to breathe myself?! like itā€™s so bad I canā€™t even call for help I gotta hit the wall or stomp really hard to get my partners attention to come help me. Hospital said he seems to be doing okayyy but itā€™s actually so upsetting when I see him cough and then him gasping for air like what do I do?? All I can do is hold him in an upright position and try maybe rub his back to get him to spit up some mucus? Someone help! Has anyoneā€™s baby this young had whooping cough and are they okay?? How long did they take to get better? I feel so upset I wish I got that vaccine. Iā€™m only young and I donā€™t know much so I wasnā€™t really using my brain at the time I shouldā€™ve just got the vaccine because the midwife told me I didnā€™t have to šŸ˜¢but I wish I knew how serious whooping cough actually is.

I canā€™t give you alot of advice on vaccinations or flu like symptoms ( my nearly two year old isnā€™t even in daycare) how ever I know what itā€™s like to stress over the well being and health of your bubba, youā€™re not alone mumma! My dms are always open, when youā€™re feeling alone or in situation where you need someone elseā€™s point of view šŸ’• you sound like youā€™re doing everything right and doing the best you can for him. You are doing an amazing job with getting him the right care, the hospital is your best bet with advice , so just continue following the advice from them! Head up mumma, try (easier said then done) after yourself too, you canā€™t look after him if youā€™re not in good health either , be patient with yourself and him . Iā€™d recommend tho , keep him away from people as much as you can even when he starts to get better !! Wishing you the best of luck and all my love n support to the both of you

It sounds like you're doing everything you can. Keep taking him to the hospital if you're worried. They might still send you home but keep going whenever you're concerned about bub. I'm not sure if it works with bubs with whooping cough but running the hot water in the bathroom and letting it get really filled with steam and then sitting in the steam helps bubs with croup

Iā€™m so sorry that this has happened to you and your baby. It sounds awful. No mamma wants to go through that. I agree with Emily keep taking him to hospital. I donā€™t have any experience with this unfortunately, but thatā€™s the best you can do. And if your baby is really unwell push for them to admit him. Perhaps give the Child Health Nurse a call for advice too. On a public health note, any time youā€™re offered a vaccination for free, take it. Vaccinations are so important for protecting everyone against nasty illnesses. And itā€™s because of vaccination that those illnesses are uncommon. Unfortunately Covid times and the shock of it all has given rise to misinformation in this space. I know you did the best you could with what you knew at the time. Iā€™m just saying this so that you might feel a little more informed for next time. I hope things get better for you very soon!!
