The webinar with Baby Academy said the same as Jess. After 6 months, you don't need to sterilise them x
I might get slated for this but here goes…. I stopped sterilising after 6 months, have done it with both my children. Sorry for anyone who doesn’t agree 😐
aww Thankyou for this girls! My LB is 6months in a couple of weeks time so will just keep doing it till then.. being a FTM I’m just being super cautious 😅🙈 @Jess omg didn’t think about the dummies! 👏 @Sophie - no one’s to judge! If that worked for you then you do it xxx
I sterilised spoons, but now she puts everything in her mouth I don’t bother. Not even sure why I still sterilise her bottles 😂😂😂
There’s actually limited evidence to suggest that sterilising bottles, particularly after six months, is necessary. The U.K. along with a couple other countries have the strictest guidelines on this - many countries recommend sterilising only until 4 or 6 months, or not at all. I assume it might be because the NHS is under resourced so they want to limit the risk of additional strain on the system, but I assume if you wash everything well, it’s not necessary given that babies basically put their mouths on everything once they’re able to hang out on the floor. That said, I’m still sterilising bottles 😂. But definitely not spoons, teethers, toys etc.

I think if you’re weaning 4-5 months you do but at 6 months you don’t? I think sterilising is mostly for formula anyway because it’s the powder that can contain bacteria. I haven’t sterilised dummies for weeks now, just the bottles!
